Adding viscous dampers to the structure can effectively reduce the dynamic response of the structure under seismic action and improve the ability to withstand earthquake. The damper installation configurations in the structure is an important factor affecting the damping efficiency of the viscous damper energy dissipation system. This paper introduces a novel damper systems——open-space-damper energy dissipation system, which offsets the deficiency of existing viscous damper installation configurations occupying the entire bays in frames and obstructing the vision, and meets the architectural requirements of people. The additional damping ratio is an important parameter in the design of viscous dampers energy dissipation structures. The calculation accuracy of the displacement magnification factors of viscous damper installation configurations directly affects the calculation result of the additional damping ratio calculated by strain energy method. The existing calculation formula of displacement magnification factor is derived based on the shear deformation of the structure, while the multi-storey and high-rise structure generally produces the shear-bending deformation under the lateral force, whether the existing calculation method is applicable to the multi-storey and high-rise structure remains to be studied. In this paper, considering the structure bending-shear deformation, the damping performance of the open configuration is theoretically analyzed and numerically simulated. The main research contents include:(1)Based on the structural shear deformation, the calculation formula for the displacement magnification factor of open configuration is derived, and the accuracy of the formula is verified by dynamic test and calculation of additional damping ratio of structure;Considering the structural shear-bending deformation, the calculation formula for the displacement magnification factor of open configuration in the general multi-storey structure is derived, and the applicability of the formula for calculating the displacement magnification factor of the general multi-storey and high-rise structure is verified by the analysis of numerical examples and the calculation of the additional damping ratio of the structure.(2)Using SAP2000 to analyze the time-history analysis of the 12-story steel frame structure with open configuration under earthquake action, verified the damping capacity of the open configuration via comparing the interlayer displacement angle between the original structure and the additional viscous damper structure;By calculating the additional damping ratio of the structure, the accuracy of the formula for the displacement magnification factor derived based on structural the shear-bending deformation is verified.(3)According to the formula for displacement magnification factor, the influence of configuration parameters on the damping performance of the open configuration is analyzed;SAP2000 is used to analyze the time history analysis of multiple structural models with different values of open configuration parameters, and the influence of mechanism parameters on the damping performance of the structure is analyzed by comparing the dynamic response of each structure. The study shows that open-space-damper configuration system can provide good damping effect, and the formula for displacement magnification factor considering the shear deformation does not apply to general high-rise structure, while the formula considering the shear-bending deformation has better calculation accuracy for high-rise structure.
