Energy dissipation technology, as a new type of seismic technology, is currently widely used in the existing seismic reinforcement building and seismic control of new buildings. Although the energy dissipation technology has been relatively mature, there are still some problems to continue to study, and it finds that the additional effective damping ratio provided by the viscous damper changing with seismic acceleration in engineering application.Based on the problem, the paper research the changes of additional effective damping ratio for nonlinear viscous damper, frame structure, under different seismic peak ground acceleration.(1)This paper firstly introduces the development process of dissipation energy dissipation technology and the research status at home and abroad of the additional effective damping ratio, and the related theory of dissipation structure and viscous damper are introduced in detail.(2)The application of SAP2000 seismic analysis and calculation of the additional effective damping ratio are summarized, then it sums up the analysis process.(3)Because of the coupling between the change of the additional effective damping ratio and seismic force, it can’t get the accurately relationship. Considering the variation of the seismic ground motion, it uses the different numbers of damper for the structure to analyze the methods of the additional effective damping ratio.(4) Forming the same structure of reinforced concrete structure and steel frame structure, meeting the seismic design requirements, and arranging the same quantity dampers, it analyzes the changes of the additional effective damping ratio. It can play the role to estimate a reasonable of additional effective damping ratio in design.
