The animal paintings in the early grottoes of Dunhuang integrate the cultural traditions of the western regions and the Central Plains in Han and Jin Dynasties. They have simple shapes and elegant styles. They are rare early animal paintings in traditional Chinese painting.Cave 257 of Mogao Grottoes is a representative Grottoes in the Northern Wei Dynasty. In the grottoes,Buddhist stories related to animals are drawn.Based on the analysis and arrangement of these animal paintings, the extraction and artistic transformation of visual elements are carried out and applied to the design of cultural and creative products.A series of cultural and creative products with both traditional cultural connotation and modern aesthetic are designed, including three parts: functional art placement, public art installation and printing.Through the combination of the theory of art design and design practice, this paper explores the pattern of not only highlighting its own historical and cultural characteristics, but also contemporary cultural and creative product design, and makes a beneficial attempt in exploring the theory and practice of traditional aesthetic into modern life.
