The Application Of Complex Structure In The Design Of Innovation Block In Old Cities

Technology and innovation industry is the pillar industry of knowledge-based economy.Since its birth,the innovation space experienced the departure and then return to the urban center.The complexity of old cities’ built environment gives rise to its diversity and vitality,which is able to inspire the creative class’ s knowledge production.As a result,the combination of innovation industry and the old city environment is not only the future of innovation industry but also corresponds with the appeal of the old city for urban renewal.This thesis consists of two parts.The first part is an experimental design of innovation block in old city environment.The design uses Qingdao Road block in Nanjing old city as a case,in which the innovation space is embedded through the application of morphological complexity structure,innovation function programming,and spatial construction,to create an old-city-like urban form that is friendly to both the creative class and the local community resident.The second part is a themed research that focuses on how to use morphological complexity of urban block for the analysis and design of urban block.This research studies the blocks of Nanjing old city,new city and other typical block examples.Their road structure and inner hierarchical structure are analyzed to understand their relationships and structure of urban block elements,and finally to summarize the general feature and order of intensive blocks of the old city.The method of combining different kinds of innovation space with the complex old city block model is also discussed.The conclusion of the research is applied in the design,and a before-and-after comparison of the block’s form structure is made to confirm the validity of the research.
