With the rapid development of China's cities,a large number of existing broad-scale closed residential communities have gradually caused urban problems, such as traffic congestion, lack of living streets' vitality, and loss of employment space. In response to these "urban diseases",the State Council promulgated the "Several Opinions of the CPC Central Committee on Further Strengthening the Management of Urban Planning and Construction" in February 2016,proposing that "new residential buildings should be promoted the block system, and no longer construct closed residential area in principle."As a result, more and more attention is paid to"open block",making it increasingly important in urban construction. On the basis of summarizing the background of "open block",this article first defines the definition of "open block ",analyzes related theories at home and abroad, and summarizes its theoretical points. At the same time,it analyzes the successful classic cases at home and abroad, summarizes the experience, morphological features and key points.Secondly,it is argued that "open block " can effectively alleviate the problems caused by the"closed community" in current Chinese urban construction. And the design strategy of space shape design of the"open block" is proposed from the block scale, traffic organization, public space and variety design. Finally, this study takes the urban design of Hangzhou Asian Games Village as an example to conduct research examples using the planning method proposed by this research, and summarizes and studies the prospects. This research can provide some reference for the future urban development and construction of the country, especially the space shape design of the "open block",and put forward some positive suggestions.
