As one of the main consumers of water resources, urban households have gradually become a key link in saving water resources. With the rapid development of urbanization,a large number of people are pouring into cities.China has a large population base, limited water resources reserves, and serious urban water shortages, facing the dual pressures of water supply and demand.Studying the law of urban household water consumption and formulating reasonable household water consumption control standards can improve the efficiency of household water use, alleviate the shortage of water resources, and promote the construction of water-saving society. This paper applies the data from the Peking University China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)in 2014 to study the main influencing factors of urban household water use,the impact of urban family demographic changes on domestic water use,and the simulation of urban household water use marginal effects. The study found that:(1)The significant influencing factors of urban household water use are family size, total age, total education, female proportion, net income of all households, annual average temperature and annual average humidity. The total size and age of the family are the two main influencing factors.(2)Comparing the impact of household population structure changes on domestic water consumption in the national and western cities, the data of western cities is highly representative. With the expansion of the family size, there is a significant marginal diminishing effect on per capita water consumption. The marginal impact of household water use,middle-aged people> minors> seniors> young people.(3)There are basic and variable parts of household water, and the relationship betweenbasic water use and family size is close. With the expansion of family size, the basic water use is growing, but its increment does not completely follow the law of marginal decline. The variable water use is mainly for personal needs, and it has a higher correlation with the family population and a greater impact on the total domestic household water consumption.(4)According to the family size and age structure, the sample households are grouped. It is found that the statistical distribution model of household water consumption is Burr distribution, but the distribution shape and parameter values are different.According to the inverse function of the cumulative distribution function of the statistical distribution model(ICDF)The quartile method is used to measure the variable water use.The variable water consumption for households with 1 to 6 households meeting more than 80% of household water consumption are:14.5179 tons,17.4429 tons,19.1335 tons,24.3172 tons,30.4916 tons and 32.4359 tons.
