The 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly puts forward a new urbanization strategy, which is people-oriented,improves the quality of urbanization, and develops urbanization with the characteristics of "intensive, harmonious, fair and sustainable".However,in the process of the implementation of the new urbanization strategy,a large number of small towns have gradually shown some practical problems, such as industrial contraction, transformation difficulties, slow upgrading, lagging behind in the development of scientific and technological support.Soonly, the characteristic towns arrived. As a new form of industrial spatial organization, characteristic towns can effectively promote new urbanization, promote rural revitalization, and promote the integration of production, life and ecology. At present, how to scientifically construct the classification system of characteristic towns, optimize the spatial layout of characteristic towns, and make clear the factors that affect the spatial layout of characteristic towns are the scientific problems that need to be solved to promote the construction of characteristic towns in a healthy and orderly way. This paper takes 403 characteristic towns published by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development as the research object.According to the research idea of "classification system-spatial distribution-influencing factors" of Characteristic Towns, this paper constructs the classification system of characteristics towns in China, analyzes the industrial differences and spatial distribution characteristics of different types of them, and probes into the factors affecting the spatial distribution of them, based on the rooted theory, industrial cluster theory, geospatial cognitive theory, which is of theoretical and practical significance. The paper is divided into four parts, the first part is the introduction, which mainly explains the background, significance, methods and technical route of the research;the second part is the theoretical basis and research review, through the literature analysis, trying to explain the necessity and feasibility of this study;the third part is the empirical research, which discusses the types, spatial distribution differences and their causes of formation of characteristic towns; Finally, the fourth part is the conclusion and Discussion. The conclusions are as follows:1.According to the principle of "characteristic embeddedness, industrial relevance and industrial innovation",it is scientific and appropriate to build a classification system of 4 main categories,8 sub categories and 15 basic types of towns with Chinese characteristics.2.The spatial distribution of characteristic towns have obvious agglomeration distribution characteristics and spatial distribution differences. The number distribution and regional distribution of different types of characteristic towns are in a stepped distribution, among which the three oriented type is more than the two oriented type, the two oriented type is more than the one oriented type, and the four oriented type is the least. The most characteristic towns in the East, followed by the west, and finally the central region. In space,it has formed high-density areas in Yangtze River Delta,Beijing Tianjin area and Pearl River Delta sub density areas. The results show that distribution density of characteristic towns is closely related to the existing industrial base of each region, with obvious rooted characteristics.3.The factors that affect the spatial distribution of characteristic towns have the characteristics of diversity and difference.Using 15 indicators of four dimensions, namely, government support, resources and environment, traffic convenience and social economy, and adopting the method of Geodetector, the paper reveals the differences of different dimensions and different indicators. In terms of dimensions, government support(0.64)> transportation convenience(0.50)> social economy(0.43)> resources and environment(0.42).In terms of indicators, altitude, road network density and policy quantity have no significant impact on the spatial distribution of characteristic towns, while GDP,population density, urbanization rate, tourism resources, green coverage rate of built-up areas, railway network density, total urban transport passenger volume, regional passenger volume, local general public budget expenditure, public service expenditure,R&D project number,PPP project number, etc have significant impact on the spatial distribution.Under the interactive detection, the forces of all influencing factors on the spatial distribution of characteristic towns are greater than the forces of individual effects, which are embodied in two types: Nonlinear Enhancement and Bi-factor Enhancement. The latter is more common.
