The impact of China's high-speed rail network on inter-city innovation cooperation is a problem to be explored.Based on the existing research,this paper analyzes the path of high-speed rail's impact on urban innovation from two aspects of innovation activity agglomeration and innovation factor flow,and puts forward four hypotheses of high-speed rail network's impact on inter-city innovation cooperation Hypothesis 1:High-speed railway network is conducive to promoting innovation cooperation between cities.Compared with cities without high-speed railway,cities with high-speed railway have higher level of innovation cooperation.Hypothesis 2 The network position difference of cities in high-speed railway network is an important factor affecting the level of innovation cooperation between cities.The higher the centrality of high-speed railway network,the higher the level of innovation cooperation between cities.Hypothesis 3:The role of high-speed railway network in promoting innovation cooperation among cities is influenced by the conditions of urban economic development.In general,for cities with general economic development conditions,the role of high-speed railway network in promoting innovation cooperation among cities is more obvious.Hypothesis 4:The role of high-speed railway network in promoting innovation cooperation among cities is influenced by the location conditions of cities.Under the same conditions,the closer the city is to the central city,the more obvious the role of high-speed railway network in promoting innovation cooperation among cities is.In order to verify these hypotheses,this paper collects and collates panel data of 268 cities in China from 2006 to 2016,and uses network analysis methods to construct high-speed rail networks and innovation cooperation networks based on high-speed rail frequency and patent cooperation application information between cities.Furthermore,a measurement analysis model was constructed to analyze the impact of the high-speed rail network on inter-city innovation cooperationThe results of empirical analysis in this paper verify the above hypothesis Mainly including,China's high-speed rail network has a significant role in promoting innovative cooperation between cities.The convenient transportation and time cost savings brought by the high-speed rail network have created convenient conditions for face-to-face communication between innovators in different cities,improved the efficiency of information communication between cities,and promoted innovative cooperation and interaction between cities.Compared with cities that have not opened high-speed rail,the number of patent cooperation in cities that have opened high-speed rail has increased by an average of 7.155 times.Moreover,for cities that have opened high-speed rail,the promotion effect of high-speed rail on its level of innovation and cooperation depends on the city's position in the high-speed rail network.For each increase in the degree center of a city in the high-speed rail network,the number of patent cooperation between cities will increase by an average of 0.025 times.Further research found that the high-speed rail network has a certain heterogeneity in promoting innovation cooperation in different types of cities.For small and medium-sized cities dominated by the secondary industry,small scientific research personnel,air passenger transport,and closer to central cities,the role of the high-speed rail network in promoting innovation and cooperation is more obvious The above conclusions are still valid after a series of robustness tests such as the replacement of the core explanatory variables,the placebo test,and the instrumental variable test.In summary,this paper has made new progress in the following aspects.First,this paper discusses the impact of China's high-speed rail network on inter-city innovation cooperation for the first time,and provides a new perspective for revealing the path of high-speed rail network influencing urban innovation.Secondly,from the perspective of network analysis,this paper further reveals the impact of high-speed rail network on inter-city innovation cooperation,enriching the research on the network effect of high-speed rail.Thirdly,based on the patent application information,this paper builds the first 11-year inter-city innovation cooperation network in China,which is one of the most extensive patent cooperation data sets covering the technology field and the longest time span in similar research.
