This experiment study the effects of different planting densities on the growth and development of aboveground and root, yield in chilli pepper, and explore the dynamic change of aboveground agronomic traits, root morphology, root activity and root matter accumulation, looking for chilli pepper optimum planting density,In order to provide experimental basis and theoretical support for further study on chilli pepper growth mechanism and the cultivation. The experiment was carried out on chilli pepper variety of Duojiao and used randomized experiment. The experiment was designed with three treatments, planting density of 49 500 plants per hectare, planting density of 67 500 plants per hectare, planting density of 85 500 plants per hectare. The main morphological index, root activity and matter accumulation of chilli pepper root were studied by the field root digging method. The results were as follows:1.The hight of 85 500 plants per hectare plant is the highest and significantly higher than that of 49 500 plants per hectare after planted 60d and 80d,the stem diameter and branch number per plant of 49 500 plants per hectare is the largest and significantly greater than 85 500 plants per hectare after planted 60d and 80d.This shows that different planting density have different effect on height and stem diameter, branch number per plant of chilli pepper plant.Plant height and planting density were positively correlated, stem diameter, branch number and planting density showed a negative correlation.2.The LAI of chilli pepper plant population showed 67 500 plants per hectare>85 500 plants per hectare>49 500 plants per hectare in most of the time of the growing season. This shows that chilli pepper community has optimum density of LAI,too low and too high of planting density is not conducive to the improvement of population LAI.3.The SPAD and photosynthetic rate between the three treatments were not significant variation in different stages of growing period, the average value of performance fell slightly as the density increases. This suggests that the effects of planting density on the chlorophyll content and photosynthetic are not big within the scope of testing density, but high planting density have negtive influnce on leaf chlorophyll content and photosynthesis.4.The negative correlation was found in planting densities with root length, surface area,volume,diameter,tips(plant-1),the indicators except tips have reached significant difference levels after transplanted 80 days.Root fresh weight, root dry weight, canopy fresh weight, canopy dry weight and planting density showed a negative correlation, the indicators have reached significant difference levels after transplanted 60 days. The differences of root-shoot ratio between three treatments were not significant, and the root-shoot ratio decreases as the extension of the growth period during the experiment; This suggests that the growth of root ahead of the growth of overground part.Root activity showed a trend of decrease as the extension of growth period.85 500 plants per hectare is 3.52%lower than 49 500 plants per hectare, but the differences between the treatments were not significant. The activity of SOD and POD,the content of MDA in root of high planting density was higher than that of low planting density, but the difference was not significant.5.The fruit number per plant and the yield per plant(Fresh weight, dry weight)decreases with the increase of planting density, and the indicators of 49 500 plants per hectare respectively is 1.92%,2.05%and 1.07%higher than 67 500 plants per hectare. The yield per plot(Fresh weight)of 67 500 plants per hectare is 67.86kg and it is the highest,85 500 plants per hectare is lower and 49 500 plants per hectare is the lowest, the differences between the treatments were significant.
