Abstract/Summary:
Miscanthus × giganteus is a natural hybrid of Miscanthus sinensis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus. It has the advantages which the heterosis and ploidy should have and has been screened as a promising energy crop due to its high biomass yield, good energy related quality(high cellulosic concent and low ash concent)and strong resistance to stressful environments.Eventhough as a triploid,Miscanthus x giganteus was still found to have seeds.Howere, there is still no report about the seed secting and the genetic variation of the F1 offsprings of M.x giganteus. Therefore, this study was designed to:1)explore the fortilily of M.× giganteus and its related mechanism;2)explore the field performance of the M.x giganteus F1 offprings;3)screen excellent germplasms from the F1 offsprings. The results of this study were shown as following:(1)M.× giganteus usually flower from late May to early July, which can meet the flower of Miscanthus sinensis,Miscanthus sacchariflora,Miscanthus lutarioriparia and Miscanthus flowering. Results showed that the field flowering performance was various, including the blooming plants, only booting without blooming plants,a small amount of single rods in a single plant flowering, normal flowering plants and so on.(2)Only 58.87% pollen of the M.x giganteus have the activity, but these active pollen cannot germinace. The seeds setting rates in 2014 and 2016 were only 0.17% and 0.19%,respectively,indicating that the M.x giganteus was infertile.(3)The M.× giganteus genome size were 6.94 pg,and its chromosomes was 57.(4)The variation coefficient of the main phenotypic traits(incliding FSH,FWPS,MC,etc.)of M.× giganteus F1 offsprings was 14.41% ~ 151.85% with an average variation coefficient of 51.22%,which indicated that it is possible to screen good germplasm from the M.× giganteus F1 popolation.(5)Three excellent germplasms were screened from the M.× giganteus F1 offsprings using the principal component analysis and cluster analysis.(6)Based on the decerimned cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and ash content,14 excellent germplasm were finally screened, including the materials which wrer suitable for paper making and direct burning.
