With the rapid development of economic in our country, the forage industry has entered a new period of vigorous development.Oat plays an important role in food value, fodder value and ecological environment. In addition, oat has a unique adaptability and which developed rapidly in pasture and agro-pasture ecoton. However, farmers are facing a serious problem of insufficient feed in winter in the northern, and the utmost of feed production is imminent. The experiment was conducted in May-August,2017 in Youyu of Shanxi Province. The effects of different varieties and nitrogen fertilization addition on oats main agronomic traits, yield and quality, were researched for providing reasonable theoretical basis for the promotion of oat forage and fertilization management in North Shanxi. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The main agronomic traits, fresh and hay yield of different oat varieties were significant difference(P<0.05).The plant height of Titan(137.22 cm)was significantly higher than other varieties, the fresh yield of Everleaf 126(49.86 kg · hm-2)was significantly higher than other varieties, the hay yield of Charisma(11.51 kg · hm-2)and Molasses(11.85 kg · hm-2)was significantly higher than other varieties.(2)The main nutritional value of different oat varieties were significant difference(P<0.05).The CP content of Haymaker(13.73%)was significantly higher than other varieties, the WSC content of Haymaker(16.1%)was significantly higher except Everleaf 126(14.85%)and Sharp(14.89%)than other varieties, the RFV of Souris(114.67)was significantly higher than other varieties except Monida(109.37)(3)The results of principal component analysis showed that the varieties, including haymaker, molasses, everleaf 126 and bhaler 2,performed well in agronomic traits, yield and nutritional quality with higher comprehensive score. So they are more suitable to promote planting than other varieties in agro-pasture ecotone in North Shanxi.(4)Nitrogen addition levels had significant effects on agronomic traits, yield and quality of oat(P<0.05),and N addition levels had significant correlation with fresh and hay yield, dry matter yield,CP content,WSC content and NDF content. The results showed that the yield, quality and palatability of oats were better when the N addition levels reached 90 and 120 kg·hm-2.Comprehensive analysis showed that the optimum N addition levels were 90?120 kg·hm-2 for planting oat in agro-pasture ecotone in North Shanxi.(5)The results of regression analysis and path analysis showed that the optimal regression equation of dry matter yield and plant height and stem thickness was y=-9.583+0.123x1+0.803x2(R2=0.611,F=14.149**),and plant height and stem diameter were two important factors affecting the dry matter yield of oat. Therefore, plant height and stem can predict the dry matter yield of oat.
