Urban park is one of the most representative garden land in urban greening construction, and the most important component of the urban green space system.Landscape plants,as one of the four main elements of gardens, not only have good ornamental characteristics, but also have important ecological services in water conservation, microclimate improvement, air conditioning and noise reduction in cities. Therefore, more and more attention has been paid to urban park construction nowadays. In this paper, three parks of the Bishan Guanyintang Wetland Park, the Bishan Xiuhu Park and the Beibei Park locating in Chongqing were selected as our target sites, and their landscape plant diversity and allocation patterns were investigated.Through such investigation, the main results and conclusions were as follows:1.Among the three urban parks, fifty ornamental plants were found, accounting for 25.8%of the total number of plants. The species of ornamental plants in these three parks are as follows:48 species in the Guanyintang Wetland Park,38 species in the Xiuhu Park and 40 species in the Beibei Park. There were 37 species of foliage plants, accounting for 19.07%of the total of plants. The foliage plants in these three parks were as follows:28 species in the Guanyintang Wetland Park,21 species in the Xiuhu Park and 22 species in the Beibei Park. There are 47 species of compounding ornamental plants, accounting for 24.23%of the total number of plants. The multiple ornamental plants in these three parks were as follows:41 species in the Guanyintang Wetland Park,36 species in the Xiuhu Park and 37 species in the Beibei Park.In terms of seasonal changes, garden plants in three parks mainly consisted of ornamental plants which were appreciated in spring and summer, while they represented relatively small ornamental plants in autumn.2.Based on this survey, most of the commonly used species belong to exotic plants, while the native plants are relatively few in species and quantity.Among these three parks, the dominant families of landscape plants are Sylvestriaceae,Magnoliaceae,Ficus,Moraceae,Ulmaceae and Palmae.3.From this survey,we found that the main problems existing in the application of landscape plants in these three urban parks are:i)scanty plant species in these urban parks, especially in vines, aquatic and bamboo groups;2)scanty native plants in these urban parks;3)monotonous landscape for the undergrowth plants;4)many similarity plants in these three parks;5)poor integration in plant design and environment;6)Extensive plant management and protection;7)the function of plant science popularization has not been fully developed.4.Based on investigation, some suggestions were put forward for the application of garden plants in urban parks:1)increasing the introduction and promotion of excellent garden plants;2)enriching diversity of wetland plant landscape;3)improving the hierarchical structure of landscape plant community;4)strengthening the development and utilization of native plants;5)improving the level of plant landscape design as well as strengthening the management and protection of garden plants;6)deeply exploring the value of public science education in each park.
