Compound Chinese herbs were added to the weaned piglets to determine the effects on growth performance and intestinal barrier function of the weaned piglets. The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of compound Chinese herbs to the weaned piglets.Ninety-six 28 day old"DurocxLandracexYorkshire" weaned piglets with similar body weight were selected and were randomly divided into four groups(basal diet group, the antibiotic group,0.5%Chinese herbal I group and 0.5%Chinese herbal II group). There are four replicates of six in each group, for a period of 28 days of feeding test. The results were as follows:Compound I and average daily gain and average daily feed intake of the compound II group and organic matter, crude protein, calcium and total phosphorus digestibility were higher and the antibiotic group, feed gain ratio and diarrhea frequency and diarrhea index were lower than the control group, but the difference was not significant(P>0.05),there was no significant difference(P>0.05)between the compound I and compound II groupCompound I and compound II group of piglets jejunum, ileum and cecal contents Enterobacteriaceae were significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05).Jejunal contents Compound? group of lactic acid bacteria was significantly lower than the control group and the antibiotic group(P<0.05).Jejunal contents of compound I group the number of bifidobacteria was significantly lower than the antibiotic group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference(P>0.05)between the ileum and cecum contents quantity was lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria in each group, compound I and compound II group of jejunum and ileum contents colonization resistance(B/E)were significantly higher in the control group(P<0.01),no significant differences(B/E)between the cecal contents of each group(P>0.05).Duodenal mucosal thickness wall thickness and compound II was significantly higher than the control group and the antibiotic group(P<0.01),duodenal crypt depth was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05);Compound I group duodenal villus height was significantly higher(P<0.05);duodenal villus height/crypt depth of antibiotic group, compound I and compound II group were significantly higher(P<0.05).Compound ? jejunum wall thickness was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05);jejunum villus height Compound ? group was significantly higher(P<0.05);significantly higher villus height/crypt depth of jejunum compound ? group in the other three groups(P<0.05);between jejunum crypt depth and thickness of each group were not significantly different(P>0.05).Ileum wall thickness in the antibiotic group and compound ? group was significantly higher than the control and compound ? group(P<0.01);ileal mucosa thickness compound ? group was significantly lower than the control group and the antibiotic group(P<0.05),Compound ? Group ileum mucosa thickness and the antibiotic group was significantly higher(P<0.05);ileum villus height and crypt depth in compound ?group were significantly higher than the control and antibiotic group(P<0.05);Compound ? group and Compound ? group ileum villus height/crypt depth was significantly lower than the control group and the antibiotic group(P<0.01).Intestinal bowel mucosa in each group in each goblet cells and mast cell numbers and positive intestinal lamina propria T,B lymphocyte percentage were not significantly different(P>0.05).Spleen positive B lymphocyte percentage Compound ? group was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05).Jejunum intestinal trefoil factor(ITF),transforming growth factor ?1(TGF-?1),tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?)and interleukin-8(IL-8)content,and ileal mucosal immunoglobulin A(sIgA),intestinal trefoil factor(ITF),transforming growth factor ?1(TGF-?1 between the content of each group were not significantly different(P>0.05).Compound ? and jejunum sIgA of Compound ? group was significantly higher than the antibiotic group(P<0.05).Ileal mucosa of TNF-? in compound ? was significantly higher than the antibiotic group and compound ? group(P<0.05).Antibiotic group and compound ? group ileal mucosa IL-8 levels were significantly higher(P<0.05),IL-8 ileal mucosa of Compound ? group was significantly lower than the antibiotic group(P<0.05).MUC2 expression levels of Campylobacter compound ? and compound ? group and ileal mucosa was significantly higher(P<0.05).PBDI Compound ? expression jejunum and ileum mucosa group was significantly lower than the other three groups(P<0.01),no significant difference among other groups(P>0.05).Compound ? group compared with the control group significantly increased the expression of jejunal mucosa OCLN(P<0.05),compared to the control group of compound ? group was significantly reduced expression of ileal mucosa OCLN(P<0.05).Compound ? group ? group compared to compound significantly increased the ileal mucosa ZO-1 expression(P<0.05),compared to the control group significantly reduced the ileal mucosa of ZO-1 expression(P<0.05).Compound II group compared with the control group significantly reduced the expression of TGF-?1 in the jejunal mucosa(P<0.01),no significant difference ileal mucosa between TGF-?1 expression in each group(P>0.05).Compound I and compound II group of jejunum and ileum mucosa expression of TNF-a were significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05),in which the compound I group was significantly different(P<0.01).Compound I group compared with the control group significantly increased the jejunum IL-8 expression(P<0.05),but significantly reduced the expression of IL-8 in the ileal mucosa(P<0.05).Compound I and compound II group compared to the control group were up-regulated expression of TLR4 ileal mucosa, wherein the compound II group were significantly different(P<0.05),no significant difference of jejunum TLR4 expression between the groups(P>0.05)Compound I,II herbs significantly reduce the weaning intestinal contents in Enterobacteriaceae, improve colonization resistance, enhanced piglet gut barrier function, play with the same antibiotics even better results.
