Study On The Characteristics And Planting Techniques Of Different Red Okra Varieties

Red Okra is a kind of Okra variety with the red peel,that also known as the South American Red Okra.It is an annual herb that belongs to Malvaceae Abelmoschus.Red Okra is a kind of new and characteristic vegetables which introduced aboard in recent year,and there are few researches on the planting technique of Red Okra and relative literatures.Beijing,Hongxing,Hongjian and Huabao,the four varieties of Red Okra were employed to study the quality characteristics and planting technique to evaluate their growth and development status in the Pearl River Delta region,which contributes to screening the optimal variety and provide a theoretical and practical reference for further large-scale cultivation.The main results are shown as follows:1.The different performances of the four Red Okra varieties in their growth period,development and the quality characteristics.Results showed that compared with Hongjian and Huabao Red Okra,the early fruit stage,the vegetative growth stage,the fruit harvest period,the fruit picking period and the large stage of fruit harvest of Beijing and Hongxing Red Okra are later-maturing.The stem length,leaf area,photosynthetic rate,fruit number,fruit height and conversion yield of Beijing and Hongxing were superior to Hongjian and Huabao.The soluble sugar content,soluble protein content and vitamin C content of Beijing,Hongxing and Hongjian were significantly higher than those of Huabao.2.The four factors?carbamide,superphosphate,potassium dihydrogen phosphate and potassium sulfate?three level orthogonal test L₉?3⁴?were conducted to study the the growth and development effect of Hongxing and Huabao Red Okra.Results showed that treatment4 was better than other treatments in view of the leaf area for Hongxing Red Okra,and it was also better than other treatments in terms of the leaf area and stem length for Huabao Red Okra,which indicates that treatment 4,35.14 g/m² carbamide,6.15 g/m² superphosphate,4.38 g/m² potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 27.87 g/m² potassium sulfate was the optimum and beneficial to the growth.Treatment 3 was better than other treatments in the number of fruits,the weight of fruits and conversion yield for Hongxing Red Okra,and it was also better than other treatments in the development performances for Huabao Red Okra.Treatment 3,23.44 g/m² carbamide,18.45 g/m² superphosphate,5.76g/m² potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 27.87 g/m² potassium sulfate was the optimum and beneficial to the development.3.The effect of planting environment on the growth of Red Okra.Red Okra is keen on the warm environment and has a strong heat resistance,and its optimal growth temperature is between 15?and 28?.The suitable temperature of seed germination was between 28?and 30?,the seedlings period is between 15?and 21?,the vegetative growth period is between 20?and 25?,and the reproductive growth period is 25?to 28?.4.There were a remarkable correlation of Red Okra growth and development among the four different varieties.Under spring planting,the regression equation of Beijing Red Okra was Y₁=5.9180+13.4827X₁+0.1723X₁²,the regression equation of Hongxing Red Okra was Y₂=5.1236+11.5295X₂+0.2885X₂²,the regression equation of Hongjian Red Okra was Y₃=3.6992+12.5932X₃+0.3164X₃²,and the regression equation of Huabao Red Okra was Y₄=6.7857+9.7889X₄+0.8518X₄².While the regression equation of Beijing Red Okra was Y₅=9.3657+18.0479X₅-0.6702X₅²,the regression equation of Hongxing Red Okra was Y₆=6.1279+19.6932X₆-1.0128X₆²,the regression equation of Hongjian Red Okra was Y₇=5.9778+17.0726X₇-0.6560X₇²,and the regression equation of Huabao Red Okra was Y₈=6.6267+14.7327X₈-0.3769X₈² under autumn planting.Results showed that regardless of spring planting or autumn planting,the four Red Okra varieties have a positive relation between the leaf area and the fruit number,which means that the growth and development of Red Okra are positively proportional within a certain range.
