Quercus mongolica is an important forest species in Liaoning region. In order to understand the resource status of Q.mongolica forest in Liaoning and explore the provenance variation at seedling stage, the distribution, forest category and resources of Q.mongolica forest in Liaoning were analyzed, and the growth, physiological characteristics and root characteristics of one-year-old seedlings from 6 provenances of Q.mongolica in Fushun,Qingyuan,Huanren,Dandong,Lingyuan and Benxi were also analyzed and compared. The main results of this study are as follows:1.Present situation of Q.mongolica forest resources in Liaoning region(1)Q.mongolica forest resources in Liaoning are mainly distributed in the eastern and southern parts of Liaoning, but less in the western and central parts of Liaoning. The main forest category of Q.mongolica forest in Liaoning is protection forest, mainly in the east, which gradually decreases from the edge to the interior of Liaoning Province;timber forests are concentrated in the south;firewood forests are mainly distributed in the central and southern and eastern areas of Liaoning;and forests for special use are mainly distributed in the eastern and southern areas of Liaoning.(2)The existing resources of Q.mongolica forests in Liaoning should adhere to the concept of "scientific management".They should be protected and managed according to habitats and forest types. The comprehensive utilization value of Q.mongolica should be emphasized, and the construction of plantations and the protection of forest resources should be strengthened.2.Provenance variation of Q.mongolica seedlings in Liaoning(1)The one-year-old seedlings from 6 provenances of Q.mongolica have significant differences in biomass, seedling height, top bud, leaf morphology and root morphology;the phenotypic variation of root and leaf are extremely abundant;the secondary growth of seedlings of Q.mongolica from Lingyuan,Huanren and Benxi provenances is obvious;the order of growth characteristics from good to bad is Lingyuan > Qingyuan > Fushun > Benxi >Huanren > Dandong.(2)There are significant differences in chlorophyll content,MDA content, soluble protein content, free proline content,POD and SOD activities in leaves of one-year-old seedlings from 6 provenances of Q.mongolica.The order of physiological characteristics from good to bad is Lingyuan > Qingyuan > Benxi > Fushun > Huanren > Dandong.(3)The comprehensive evaluation shows that Lingyuan is the best provenance and its seedlings performance is the best;Qingyuan provenance perform good;Fushun and Benxi provenances perform generally;Huanren and Dandong provenances perform worst.(4)The phenotypic variability and physiological characteristics of Q.mongolica provenances are correlated with geographic environmental factors, and the top bud plumpness, leaf morphology, lateral root length and physiological characteristics show significant geographic variability at seedling stage.
