| Weaning stress is a common problem in weaned piglets at present,which impedes sustainable pork industry growth.Reduced food intake,low immunity,poor disease resistance and post-weaning diarrhea(PWD)are the major clinical symptoms.The mainly approach that many farmers choose to overcome weaning stress is to add antibiotics,however,this strategy not only has limited effects,but also can cause different degrees of immunesuppression in weaned piglets,reduce the effects of vaccines,and decrease the growth performance.How to control weaning stress is an urgent problem for farmers.In this study we aimed to develop an herbal medicine preparation named Jinzhubao to solve this problem.In order to facilitate the application,the product was made into tablets through mixing and granulating processes,thus it can be administrated orally.In order to popularize this product,dose screening and its effects in clinics were tested.The study was mainly divided into two sections.Section Ⅰ: Dose screening of Jinzhoubao for preventing PWD and improving growth performance in weaned pigletsBy analyzing the PWD protection rate and growth performance in weaned piglets at different weaning ages in different farms,we found that:(1)The prevention rates of Jinzhubao against PWD in piglets weaned at day 21 and 28 were observed.The results showed that the prevention rates of Jinzhubao were 100% at a dose of 10 g(2 tablets)per day.(2)The improvement of growth performance in piglets weaned at day 21 and 28 were analyzed.The results showed that Jinzhubao at a dose of 10 g(2 tablets)per day could increase the daily weight gain in weaned piglets at different weaning ages,reduce the feed conversion ratio and improve the growth performance in piglets after weaning.These results indicated that Jinzhubao,at a dose of 10 g(2 tablets)per day,not only 100% prevented PWD but also improved growth performance in weaned piglets at different weaning ages.Section Ⅱ: Effects of Jinzhubao on growth performance and immune function in weaned piglets at different weaning ages(1)To observe the effect of Jinzhubao on the growth performance in piglets weaned at day 21 and 28,the piglets were divided into three groups: control group,Jinzhubao group and positive control group.The results showed that in piglets weaned at day 21,daily weight gain in Jinzhubao group was increased by 16.39%,significantly higher than that in control group(p < 0.01),the feed conversion ratio in Jinzhubao group was decreased by 9.55% compared with that in control group;in piglets weaned at day 28,daily weight gain in Jinzhubao group was increased by 9.8%,the feed conversion ratio in Jinzhubao group was 1.53,decreased by 5.55% compared with that in control group(p < 0.05),indicating Jinzhubao can reduce the feed conversion ratio.Moreover,the prevention rate against PWD in Jinzhubao group reached 100%,whereas the incidence of PWD in both control group and positive control group were significantly higher.These results revealed that Jinzhubao played an important role in increasing daily weight gain,reducing the feed conversion ratio and preventing diarrhea,it had better effects than other products.(2)To observe the effect of Jinzhubao on immune indexes in piglets weaned at day 21 and 28,blood samples were collected from each piglet from three groups,immunoglobulin,total protein,albumin,complement C3,complement C4 were detected by either serum immunoassay or enzyme-linked immunoassay kit.The results showed that Ig G,Ig A,Ig M and C4 in Jinzhubao group were significantly higher than those in control group(p < 0.05),the effects of Jinzhubao on total protein and C3 were even more significant compared with control group(p < 0.01);Ig G level in positive control group was significantly different from that in control group(p < 0.05),however there were no differences in Ig A,Ig M,C3 and C4 between these two groups.These results indicated that Jinzhubao up-regulated the levels of immune indexes in serum in piglets after weaning,improved the immune function,increased disease resistance and reduced the incidence of diseases.Therefore,Jinzhoubao plays an important role in clinical application. |
