Plant quarantine contains a set of measures adopted by the nation to prevent the spread of crop diseases, insect pests and weeds along with agricultural products, and is the fundamental measure to limit the artificial spread of pests and diseases.Methyl bromide and phosphine fumigation are the main technical measure to the pest insects in quarantine and detoxification.Methyl bromide is a substance that destroys the ozone layer, and phosphine is highly flammable, highly toxic, corrosive and harmful to the environment.Currently,non-toxic treatment technologies such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen are widely used in the prevention and control of storage pests. In this paper, the control effect of nitrogen and carbon dioxide on Tribolium castaneum, and their enhancement effect on methyl bromide fumigation in container were studied. In order to reduce the amount of methyl bromide used, and explore its alternative quarantine treatment technology, and provides technical guidance for the application of this technology in the integrated prevention of phytosanitary coleoptera insects. The main results are as follows:1.The control effectiveness of both 95% and 99% nitrogen concentration on T.castaneum adults and larvae were increase with processing time. The mortality rate of the red larvae was 100% when fumigated by 99% nitrogen concentration for 6 days at 30?,and the corrected mortality of T.castaneum adult was 100% after fumigated for 4 days. The corrected mortality of T.castaneum adult and larvae were 100% after fumigated by 95% nitrogen concentration for 8 and 9 days at 25?,respectively.Temperature had significant impact on the control effect of 95% and 99% nitrogen concentration on T.castaneum, the control effect of nitrogen fumigation was significantly enhanced with increasing temperature.2.The corrected mortality of T.castaneum larvae and adult with 40% carbon dioxide fumigation was significantly higher than that with 20% carbon dioxide fumigation for both 6 or 8 days. The mortality rate of the red larvae and adult was 100% when fumigated by 40% carbon dioxide fumigation for 8 days.3.Methyl bromide was reduced by 50% compared to conventional usage when the nitrogen concentration was 95% in container.40% carbon dioxide and 75% conventional usage of methyl bromide mixed fumigation had the same control effect on T.castaneum adult as the conventional dosage.
