Research On Conservation And Rejuvenation Of Ancient Trees

Ancient trees are priceless treasures left to us by nature and ancestors.They contain rich natural and historical culture and are of important ornamental,scientific,ecological and economic value.However,with the age of ancient trees is increasing,natural and man-made destruction make the condition of ancient trees being worrying.Based on the research and analysis of the factors affecting the growth of ancient trees,this paper discusses and summarizes the theory and technical measures about how to protect and rejuvenate ancient trees.And for each ancient tree in Yingshang county,Fuyang city,the corresponding protection plan named "one tree,one strategy" was formulated.The research achievements are as follows:1.Through field research and case study,the factors affecting the growth of ancient trees can be divided into four categories.They are age factor,site conditions,environmental pollution and human elements.Age factor means that as ancient trees grow,the tree will get old and die.Site factors include harsh soil conditions,extreme climate change,plant diseases and pests,and the destruction from animals.Environmental pollution refers to soil contamination,air pollution and water pollution,they impact the growing environments of ancient trees long-term.In addition,the interference and destruction from human are the direct causes to damage ancient trees.2.On the basis of understanding the factors that affecting the growth of ancient trees,the protected methods and rejuvenation technologies were systematically studied.Such as daily maintenance management,grafting trunk technique,root rejuvenation technology,tree hole filling technology and the technique for supporting tree.For all the above mentioned points,this paper introduces the required materials,operation time and steps,matters needing attention,application cases,etc.Root fertilization,leaf spraying and trunk injection were adopted to supplement the nutrition of ancient trees.The soil conditions of ancient trees can be improved by such techniques as soil changing,hole punching,hole digging,repairing the ditch for rejuvenation,and making nutritional pit.In order to restore the excellent charm of ancient trees,the trees with rotten and empty trunk should be cleaned,sterilized,filled,repaired,and bionic glued.There are two methods can support old trees,which are hard supports and soft supports.Living support is a kind of hard support,can be used with grafting trunk technique to complement each other.3.Through systematic investigations to find out the basic information about old-age tree resources in Yingshang county,Fuyang city.There are 43 ancient trees in Yingshang county,belonging to 15 families,19 genera and 20 species.They are Sabina chinensis,Diospyros kaki,Ziziphus jujuba,Ginkgo biloba,Quercus acutissima,Pistacia chinensis,Sapindus mukorossi,Salix matsudana,Sapium sebiferum,Ulmus parvifolia,Sabina chinensis(L.),Magnolia Grandiflora,Gleditsia sinensis,Koelreuteria paniculata,Celtis sinensis,Morus alba,etc.Among them,there are 8 ancient trees with poor growth potential,including 2 Sabina chinensis,2Sapindus mukorossi,1 Ginkgo biloba,1 Koelreuteria paniculata,1 Sapium sebiferum and 1 Morus alba.The main reason is that the growing environment has been damaged.Such as illegal construction,wire crossing,garbage piling,soil hardening,mechanical damage,improper maintenance methods,etc.According to the growth status of each ancient tree in Yingshang county,the "one tree,one strategy" for protecting and rejuvenating ancient trees in Yingshang county was formulated in accordance with the principle of "proper tree with proper policy".4.Although the theory and technology about conservation and rejuvenation of ancient trees in China have made positive progress,there is still a long way to go.In order to do better,we should continue to explore the application of new materials and new technologies.Keep trying to explore scientific and operable technical measures.And strengthen the application of information technology.Besides,investigate and manage the reserve resources to maintain sustainable ancient tree resources.
