objectiveTo investigate whether the serum testosterone(T)can be used as a new indicator for the diagnosis of prostate cancer(PCa)and its significance for predicting the pathological classification of prostate cancer.MethodIn this study,we selected 91 patients with prostate biopsy confirmed as Benign Prostatic Hyperplas ia(BPH)or prostate cancer(PCa)in our hospital from August 2015 to July 2017.There were 50 cases of BPH,41 cases of PCa.,23 cases of GS≥7,and 18 cases of GS <7.Age,PSA,T,and GS were collected.Result: The average of testosterone in the BPH group was 368.86 ± 149.85 ng/dl,which was higher than the PCa group 308.39 ± 151.38 ng/dl,and there was no significance between the two groups(p = 0.06).The average of testosterone in the GS≥7 group was 259.30±112.31 ng/dl,which was apparently lower than the GS<7 group(308.39 ± 151.38 ng/dl).The difference was statistically significant(P =0.016).ConclusionThe serum testosterone has a tendency to decline In patients with prostate cancer, which can be used as a reference for clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer.meanwhile, low serum testosterone predict a higher biopsy Gleason score,we should pay attention to it when selecting therapies.
