Isordon serra(Maxim.)Hara(belonging to Labiatae),namely "Xihuangcao","X-uefengcao","Shouchahuang" in Chinese,widely distributes in the south of China,inclu-ding Guangdong,Guangxi,Yunnan,Fujian Provinces.Biological activity studies perform-ed on this spiece have shown that it has hepatoprotective,anti-tumor,anti-inflammatory activities so that it has been widely used in popular medicine for treatment of arthritis,enteritis,jaundice,hepatitis,lepromatous eprosy,ascariasis and acute cholecystitis.Its economic significance is good and beverages(such as herbal tea)derived from I.serra are popular in China.Previous chemical investigations on Isodon serra have reported the presence of several diterpenoids including C-20 oxygenated ent-kauranes,6,7-seco-ent-kauranes,abietanes and ent-abietanes.Furthermore,a high level of phenolics,flavonoids,lign-ans and coumarins were isolated and identified.In order to make further use of the Chinese herbal resources and find out bioactive compounds,the chemical constituen-ts of Isodon Serra were investigated in ditail.In this experiment,Isodon serra was extracted by methanol and partitioned successively with petroleum ether,ethyl acetate and n-butanol.From these three extractions,39 compounds were isolated by chromatographic methods respectively and 37 of them were structurally elucidated by the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis.Including:8 diterpenoids:Nodosin(IS-18),Isodocarpin(IS-19),Sculponeatin A(IS-20),15a-hydroxy-20-oxo-6,7-seco-ent-kaur-16-en-1,7?-(6,11?)-diolide(IS-26),Enmei-n(IS-33),Serrin C(IS-34),15?-hydroxy-6,7-seco-6,11?:6a,20-diepoxy-1?,7-olide-ent-kaur-16-ene(IS-35),Carpalasonin(IS-36);7 phenolic acids:Salvianolic acid B(IS-13),Rosmarinic acid(IS-14),Caffeic acid(IS-24),Ferulic acid(IS-25),Syringic acid(IS-29),vanillic acid(IS-30),Chlorogenic acid(IS-31);7 flavonoids:Vicenin-2(IS-12),Luteolin-7-O-?-D-Glucoside(IS-15),Rutin(IS-16),Quercetin-3-methylether(IS-21),Quercetin(IS-22),Apigenin(IS-23),Quercetin-3,3'-dimethylether(IS-32);1 anthraquinone:Physcion(IS-1);2 coumarin:7-methoxy coumarin(IS-17),Umbelliferone(IS-27);5 triterpenoids:?-Amy-rin palmitate(IS-2),Friedelin(IS-5),Ursolic acid(IS-7),Oleanolic acid(IS-8),a-Amyrin(IS-37);3 aliphatic compounds:Qritriacontan-2-one(IS-3),Triacontanoic acid(IS-4),[Triaco-ntanoic acid,2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ether ester](IS-6);4 others:?-sitosterol(IS-9),?-daucost-erol(IS-10),Adenosine(IS-11),Vanillin(IS-28).Among them,compounds IS-2,IS-3,IS-6,IS-11,IS-13,IS-17,IS-27,IS-28,IS-29,IS-30,IS-31,IS-32 were isolated from genus Isodon for the first time;Compounds IS-1,IS-4,IS-5,IS-12,IS-15,IS-20,IS-21,IS-23,IS-26,IS-35,IS-37 were isolated from Isodon serra for the first time.
