Objective: to observe the effect on the patients received xiao-chai-hu modified Decoction and entecavir for the treatment of syndrome of liver qi stagnation of chronic hepatitis B,to find new approaches of integrative medicine pratice to treat chronic hepatitis B.Method: 60 patients with syndrome of liver qi stagnation of chronic hepatitis B were randomly assigned to receive either decoction and entecavir or entecavir for 48 weeks. To observe the clinical efficacy,TCM syndrome score, liver function and HBV-DNA,HBe Ag seroconversion before and after treatment, and to analyze it.Results::(1)TCM syndrome score:The total effective rate in study group and control group was 96.67%.76.67% respectively.P-values were calculated using the rank sum test.Result in study group was significant better than that of in control group,(P=0.016 < 0.05);(2)HBe Ag seroconversion:A total of 4 out of 30 patients achieved HBe Ag seroconversion after treatment with decoction and entecavir.A total of 3 out of30 patients achieved HBe Ag seroconversion after treatment with entecavir.P-values were calculated using the Pearson chitest(P=0.739>0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in this parameter between the groups;(3)Evaluation on HBV-DNA response effects:Serum HBV-DNA levels declined by 12 weeks,24 weeks.P-values were calculated using the test(P = 0.067,P = 0.683).There were no statistically significant differences in this parameter between the groups;(4)HBV-DNA conversion:HBV-DNA conversion to negative after 24 weeks had occurred in 21 of 30 patients in the study group compared with 20 of 30 in the control group.P-values were calculated using the Person chitest(? 2= 0.077,P = 0.781 > 0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in this parameter between the groups;(5)Biochemistry response:Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase and total bilirubin levels declined by Whole treatment cycle.Result in study group was significant better than that of in control group by 24weeks(P=0.044 < 0.05),but there were no statistically significant differences in this parameter between the groups(P=0.012<0.05).Conclusion: xiao-chai-hu modified Decoction and entecavir can significantly improve patients' symptoms compared to entecavir group, but there were no statistically significant differences in HBV-DNA response,Biochemistry response and HBe Ag seroconversion between the groups.
