BackgroundIodine is a necessary trace element in the human body.It is the key factor in the synthesis of thyroid hormones, and the thyroid hormone is directly or indirectly involved in many metabolic and developmental processes in the human body. Therefore, the iodine is essential element in the human life process.Iodine is completely obtained from environment through diet or iodine supplement. It can not be supplied by the body itself.Iodine deficiency of humen being was due to iodine defciency of environmental.IDD is widely prevalencer and serious in most part of China and world.Since the 60s of last century,China has implemented the strategy of salt iodization in the medium and severe IDD areas, and universal iodised salt(USI)at the national level, because all population in provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities exposed at the risk of iodine deficiency besides areas of excessive ioidne in water. In 2010,28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have achieved the goal of eliminating IDD at the provincial level.3 provinces or autonomous regions,e.g.Tibet,Qinghai and Xinjiang, have achieved the basic elimination of IDD targets, and 97.9%of the counties(cities and districts)have achieved the goal of eliminating IDD.Rescently, some residents in iodine deficient areas refused to buy iodized salt, which resulted in the decrease of household edible iodized salt coverage rate and the consuming rate of qualified iodized salt.Children, pregnant women and lactating women, relatint to intellignece development, are at the risk of iodine deficiency in some iodine deficient areas. The factors influencing intake of iodized salt included in the fear of iodine excess, the doubt of the safety of iodized salt the relationship of iodine excess and thyroid diseases, cancer,or nodular, and some incorrectly guided social guidance, and insufficient work on iodine deficiency health education.PurposeTo understand the awareness level of the iodine deficiency(ID)impairments and the attitude on the edible iodized salt, and its consume among citizens and influencing factors, and to explore the feasibility and basic health education model of implementing accurate IDD education in medical higher education institutions,so as to provide scientific basis for health education to prevent iodine deficiency in the future.MethodsOnline questionnaire survey, field questionnaire survey, literature review, data analysis by SPSS22.0,the factors affecting the selection of iodized salt were analyzed by Logistic regression analysis method, the regression method was used to select the statistically significant influence factors(P<0.05),and AMOS24 established the structural equation model.Results1.72.32%(1039/1810)residents in large and medium-sized cities know that mental retardation is one of the hazards of iodine deficiency.53.76%(973/1810)of people point out that the most serious harm of iodine deficiency is children's mental retardation.51.22%(927/1810)of the people think that the areas where they live are not iodine deficient;30.04%(544/1810)believe that iodized salt is not needed for coastal residents;and 15.86%(287/1810)of the population think that the current population is in iodine excess.73.98%(1339/1810)of the people who chose to stick to the iodized salt,9.5%(172/1810)of the people chose to eat salt without iodine, and 16.52%(299/1810)of the people chose to eat the iodine salt alternately and without iodized salt, mainly because they thought they were not deficient in iodine. The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that the factors contributing to the selection of iodized salt in large and middle cities were the individual iodized salt and the key population of iodine supplementation for children. It was considered that the iodine nutrition was sufficient and the excessive iodine excess led to thyroid nodules and even cancer, medical staff's informing and undesirable consequences and voluntary consumption of iodine without iodine.Salt is a hindrance.AMOS's structural equation model shows that the cognition of iodine deficiency affects their behavior.2.84.09%(1224/1100)of medical students know that mental retardation is one of the hazards of iodine deficiency.54%(594/1100)of medical students point out that the most serious harm of iodine deficiency is mental retardation in children.Although the survey involves environmental iodine deficiency in the region, only 17.64%(194/1100)of medical students think that the area of their lives is iodine deficiency;34.36%(378/1100)of the medical students think that the coastal residents need to eat iodized salt;23.91%(263/1100)of the medical students think that the current population is in iodine excess.People who choose to buy iodized salt account for 70.82%(779/1100).The results of Logistic regression analysis show that the factors contributing to the selection of iodized salt by the medical students are the individual understanding of iodine deficiency and the voluntary iodized salt.It is believed that the current iodine sufficiency and fear of iodine excess lead to thyroid nodules and even cancer, and that the iodine is the hindrance to the sea fish and shrimp. The health education mode of medical students must be guided by professionals.3.The results of Amos structural equation model is cognition which include information and knowledge and behavior constitute the model of two factors and interaction between behavior and cognition promotes.Conclusion1.Most people have a higher level of knowledge about iodine deficiency disorders.2.Most people lack of comprehensive information about iodized salt. The main reason for not buying iodized salt is that they think they they are not iodine deficiency even if they live in iodine deficient areas or worry about iodine excess can cause thyroid disease.3.We should strengthen the regulation of iodized salt market, because it can also strengthen residents ' consciousness of prevention IDD and in order to increase the consumption rate of iodized salt.4.We should establish IDD health education system under the network environment. In the future, the IDD health education for medical students,we should combine professional health education model with students' self-education model.Mainly by students themselves and guide by professionals on sensitive information.5.The network survey is fast and data collection is convenient, the survey results are reliable, but coverage rate of low educated people and farmers is low, which needs additional design investigation to be supplemented.6.Two factor model of cognitive and behavioral factors suggests that information and knowledge interact with consuming iodized salt behavior.
