Objective:To explore the clinical effect of Tonglidachang therapy on acute exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)with phlegm-heat retention of lung syndrome.Methods:68 patients with COPD(phlegm heat obstructing the lung)were randomly divided into2 groups,of which 34 cases in each group. In the control group,34 patients with acute exacerbated COPD were treated with conventional western medicine, including antibiotics, corticosteroids and bronchodilators. While in the combination group,34 patients were treated with Tonglidachang therapy on the basis of conventional western medicine for a week. The therapeutic effects of the two groups were compared.Results:1.Clinical efficacy evaluation : The total effective rate of Tonglidachang method combined with routine western medicine was 94.1%.The clinical symptoms and signs were significantly improved compared to the control group, especially for cough, expectoration and asthma in the first week(all P<0.05).Moreover,the total score of traditional Chinese medicine symptoms were significantly improved in both groups after treatment(P<0.01),while it was lower in the combination group at the end of treatment(P<0.05)。2.Pulmonary function indexes and infection parameters:(1)Pulmonary function indexes : The lung function indexes including First second forced expiratory volume(FEV1)、Forced vital capacity(FVC)and First second forced expiratory volume Percentage of estimated value(FEV1%),were significantly improved(all P<0.01)in both groups after treatment, and these indexes in the combination group were improved more obviously than those in the control group(all P<0.05).(2)Infection parameters: The white blood cells(WBC)、 Neutrophilic granulocyteNEUT% andC-reactionprotein CRP in both groups were significantly improved after treatment(all P < 0.01),while these paraments were better improved in the combination group(all P < 0.05)。Conclusion:For acute exacerbated COPD with phlegm-heat retention of lung syndrome, combination of TCM Tonglidachang therapy and conventional western medicine is better than conventional western medicine alone in clinical effect, pulmonary function indexes and infection parameters improvements, that further study is need to validate these results.
