Clinical Observation On Reinforcing Spleen-eliminating Phlegm-activating Blood Fomula In Treatment Of Infertile PCOS With Phlegm,Dampness And Blockage Of Blood Stasis | Posted on:2020-03-18 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | Country:China | Candidate:Y L A c h a p a n R a t t | Full Text:PDF | GTID:2404330578962611 | Subject:TCM gynecology | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | ObjectiveThis study compares the efficacy of using Traditional Chinese Medicine(reinforcing spleen-eliminating phlegm-activating blood formula)methods to treat a targeted group of infertile PCOS patients and implementing a similar TCM method of treatment together with the usage of Estradiol Valerate and Clomiphene. The TCM method of Invigorating Spleen to dissipate Phlegm and promoting blood circulation was implemented in treatment for infertile PCOS patients of obstruction of phlegm-dampness and blood stasis syndrome.Several factors such as menstrual cycles and accompanying symptoms, ovulation amongst patients, thickness of endometrial lining were recorded and compared with before and after treatment. The study aims to monitor and conclude the efficacy of treating obstruction of phlegm-dampness and blood stasis syndrome in PCOS using the TCM method of Invigorating Spleen to dissipate Phlegm and promoting blood circulation. It seeks to provide a Standardized process of diagnosis and treatment methods, for ease of future reference and also to promote its clinical use, providing Thais with TCM' s optimal treatment.MethodsOur study recruited 60 infertile PCOS patients of obstruction of phlegm-dampness and blood stasis syndrome, and participants were evenly split divided into two groups,TCM group and TCM+Western Medicine(WM)group. The TCM method of Invigorating Spleen to dissipate Phlegm and promoting blood circulation is implemented in the TCM group, while the TCM+WM group received an additional treatment plan of Estradiol Valerate and Clomiphene.Factors such as regularity of menstrual cycles and quality of the menstruation(in terms of blood volume and color of the blood),accompanying symptoms(dysmenorrhea, breast swelling, lower back pain),ovulation, and thickness of endometrial lining were observed before and after treatment to determine the clinical significance of a fixed TCM prescription aiming to invigorate Spleen, dissipate Phlegm and promote blood circulation amongst the targeted group of infertile PCOS patients.ResultsBoth groups displayed a significant improvement in patients' blood volume and regularity of menstrual cycles, accompanying symptoms(dysmenorrhea, breast swelling, lower back pain).Progress was also monitored using TCM' s diagnostic methods such as inspection of tongue and pulse-taking.Both groups similarly displayed an ability to boost ovulation in patients.TCM+WM group showed a slight advantage over the TCM group, there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Whilst monitoring the endometrial lining during ovulation, the TCM group showed a slight advantage over the TCM+WM group, there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).One of the known negative side effects of Clomiphene is the thinning of the endometrium, and the use of TCM herbs proved to maintain or even thicken the lining during ovulation, thereby offsetting Clomiphene' s side effect. It was observed between subgroups of pregnant and non-pregnant patients that implantation of a fertilised egg is dependent on the thickness of endometrial lining. There are no observable side effects amongst the 60 selected patients during the period this study was conducted, thereby suggesting the safety of this treatment plan.ConclusionThe TCM prescription given to the human subjects of the study was shown to effectively elevate pregnancy rates, improve menstrual and ovulation cycles and increase thickness of endometrial lining of patients during the ovulation period, without observable negative side effects. Therefore, demonstrating the clinical significance of TCM prescription on infertile PCOS patients of Phlegm-Dampness and blood stasis syndrome. | Keywords/Search Tags: | Method of Invigorating Spleen to dissipate Phlegm and promoting blood circulation, obstruction of phlegm-dampness and blood stasis syndrome, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome(PCOS), Infertility, Clomiphene | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
