Objective:To assess the safety, morbidity, and outcomes of prostatic arterial embolization(PAE)for benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)after failure of medical treatment and unable or unwilling to undergo the surgery. Methods:From October 2016 to July 2018,A total of 15 patients with a diagnosis of prostatic hyperplasia and moderate-severe lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)that uncontrollable with drug therapy were included in the analysis. The postoperative complications were observed and the international prostate symptom score(IPSS)and quality of life(Qol)were followed up at 1,3,6 and 12 months after surgery. Results:None of the 15 patients had serious complications after PAE,only with mild abdominal pain or urinary tract burning(3/15,20.00%),puncture at the puncture site(1/15,6.67%)and different degrees of fever(4/15,26.67%).There were significant differences in IPSS and Qol between the patients before and after surgery(F=8.90?15.97,P<0.01).Compared with preoperative, the IPSS and Qol had a significantly lower scores in the patients at 1,3,6 and 12 months after operation(P<0.01).Conclusion:PAE which meams safe ? effective and fewer complications should be promoted rapidly,it is a feasible procedure for unable or unwilling surgical operation patients suffering from BPH with moderate-severe LUTS that had no response to pharmacotherapy.
