Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and Prostatic Cancer (PCa) are both common in the prostatic diseases clinically. They both may result in Lower Urinary Tract Synptom because of their enlargement.BPH is presented as dysuria, frequent micturition, urgency of micturition, etc. It also may bring on urinary stones, result in failure of kidney function, etc., which will have a great impact on the Quality of Life (QOL) of old men. With the aging of population, enhancement of QOL or improvement in occurrence and development, diagnosis and treatment, BPH, as a key disease, has been focused internationally on in the last ten yeas. BPH belongs to Long Bi (difficulty in urination) in Traditional Chinese Medcine (TCM). Localized in bladder, it has a close relationship with triple energizer, lung, spleen and kidney, etc. Senile decay and deficiency of kidney Qi are the two fundmental causes of onset. Blood stasis, stagnation of phlegm, stagnation of Qi and bad Jin are the basic pathological causes. Deficiency of Ben and excess of Biao are the characteristics of pathogenesis. According to the difference of sthenia and asthenia, treatment should be set in accordence with stasis of dampness and heat, lung heat and stasis of Qi, decline of spleen Qi, deficience of kidney, stagnation of liver Qi, blood stasis of lower energier, among which disfunction of kidney Qi transformation and blood stasis are the two most vital factors incurring the occurrence of BPH.Herbs of promoting blood circulation to dispel blood stasis have the function of improving microcurculation, anticoagulation of blood platelet, promoting dissolve of fibre and expanding blood vessle according to morden medicine. As blood stasis is the main pathological mechanism of occurrence of BPH, the herbs of promoting blood circulation to dispel blood stasis play a dominating role in treating BPH and may achieve a good response clinically.Drug therapy, however, couldn't get an ideal response on the whole. Open surgery, with many complications, is macro-traumatic. Though also with the matter of trauma, complicants and recurrence, etc., still transurethral resection4of prostate (TURP) is thought to be the golden standard of treating BPH at present. With more and more reports on treatment of BPH with a variety of Interventional Therapies characterized by microintervention, the role of TURP is challenged, though its effect can't be matched on the whole as yet.Clinical reports on treatment of BPH by interventional therapy still is confined to non-intravascular interventional therapy only, that is, there is no any formal reports available on treatment of BPH by intravascular interventional therapy. So it still is unknown whether intravascular interventional therapy is feasible or effective. Aimed to that, we made studies on prostatic artery as well as its catheterization. Meanwhile, we resolved obstruction of prostatic urethra by embolization of prostatic artery with oil of zedoary turmeric and stainless coils to blockade the blood supply of prostate to make the prostate shrink and atrophia, and assessed the clinical response after embolization of prostatic artery. The standard treatment of prostatic cancer (especially localized one) is surgical castrating therapy and endocrinotherapy. Stent placement therapy is an alternative, microintervenlional, simple and effective therapy.BPH is usually concurrent with PCa clinically. The relationship between them still is disputable. They bear resemblance in symptom, that is, making stricture of urinary track and thus resulting in LUTS (lower urinary track symptoms). And in turn, the obstruction, benign or malignant, could both be resolved by dilating the stricture of prostatic urethra with baloons or stents, or by decreasing the tumor with embolization of prostatic artery or thermotherapy such as laser, microwave, radio frequency.Clinical studies on treatment of BPH by embolization of prostatic arteryObjective To access the clinical response of patients with BPH after embolization of prostatic artery.
