Botulinum Toxin Type A For Lower Facial Rejuvenation

Backgroud:The Asian women are favor of ovoid face shape.Especially how to keep the firm lower facial contour along with the gradually aging process is the major point that Asian women focus on.Patients are seeking for an minimally invasive and less risky approach compared with the traditional surgery,which might need long recovery period and cause some complications.The past two decades has seen the botulinum toxin type A(BTX-A)injection as a relatively noninvasive,conservative,and reversible preferred method for women who seek for beauty.The application of BTX-A in upper and mid face has been widely accepted.The use of BTX-A in the lower face has been attracting more and more attention for harmonious lineament and beauty recently.Method: 50 women(aged from 30 to 45 years old)who's complain was oversizechin or mandibular retraction during 06/2014 to 04/2015 was included in our study.All patients voluntarily joined this study with informed consents.Patients with facial paralysis,allergic to BTX-A or in pregnant was excluded.The photograph was taken before and 1 month after the treatment.The width of the chin and the outburst degree of the mentalis were measured at the mean time.Results: By comparing the photograph taken before and after the therapy,we found the thickness of masseter muscle were significantly reduced and the mental region were significantly move forward.The maximal change happened during 2 to 3 month after the injection.There was no adverse effect such as edema and infection after therapy.After three step of lower face treatment,the width of the mandible angle reduced from 111.73mm±2.88 mm to 103.08mm±7.42 mm with overall satisfaction rate 71% at the right side and 65% at the left side.The distance of mental region increased from 14mm±1.57 mm to 11.17mm±1.19 mm with satisfaction rate of 61%.As for effect of raising of platysma myoides,the overall satisfaction rate 75% at the right side and 73% at the left side.Conclusion: BTX-A injection for rejuvenation of the lower face is safe and effective especially for the lower face lifting,masseter reduction and mandibular advancement of Asian women,and could be widely applied.The combining injection of three sites can achieve the benefits from both lower face lifting and remolding.These three aspects,provides a reproducible method for facial rejuvenation of Asian patients with reliable results.
