ObjectiveTo investigate the value of T2 mapping in quantitative evaluation of articular cartilage treatment with ozone combined with sodium hyaluronate and assess the clinical effect of the treatment.Materials and MethodsTo collect thirty patients(age range: 40-70 years;mean age: 58.6 years;14 men,16 women)of knee joint articular cartilage injury, diagnosed by X-ray and MR,treated with ozone combined with sodium hyaluronate weekly for 8 weeks. On a GE Discovery 750 3.0T scanner,T2 mapping was performed, and then the images were processed by using a GE ADW 4.6 workstation to measure T2 values and the thickness of the articular cartilage in five different regions(medial and lateral part of the tibia, medial and lateral part of the femur, patella)of knee joint articular cartilage. The statistical differences were analyzed with SPSS 17.0 statistics software.Results1.The significant difference of the T2 values in five regions of interest(ROIs)could be seen between pretherapy and post-treatment.T2 values generally became shorter after the treatment(P<0.05).2.There was a slight change of the thickness of the articular cartilage between pretherapy and post-treatment.(P>0.05).ConclusionThe therapy of ozone combined with sodium hyaluronate is extremely effective for the patients.T2 mapping could be used to assess the quantitative effect of the treatment with ozone combined with sodium hyaluronate.so T2 mapping has an important clinical value in diagnosing and monitoring early articular cartilage injury and its special treatment.
