Objective :1.To explore the reference value of serum lipid levels monitoring in patients with multiple myeloma(MM).2.To investigate the relationship between serum lipid levels and clinical stages in the patients with multiple myeloma(MM).3.To investigate the relationship between serum cholesterol levels and immunoglobin types in the patients with multiple myeloma(MM).4.To investigate the relationship between serum lipid levels and ?2-MG in the patients with multiple myeloma(MM).Methods:1.All 107 MM patients in our hospital were divided into initial treatment group(35 pts),remission group(35 pts)and recurrence group(37 pts).Serum lipid levels of the three groups were collected and compared.32 healthy subjects in our hospital were selected as controls.2.The blood lipid levels, including total cholesterol(TCHO),triglycerlde(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),were analyzed and explored relationship with clinical stages, immunoglobulin types and ?2-MG in these 35 MM patients.Thirty two healthy persons were served as controls.Results:1.The patients with abnormal serum lipid levels in the control group and the remission group were less than those in the initial treatment group and the recurrence group, and the difference in serum TCHO level was the most obvious, which showed that the serum TCHO level in the control group and the remission group was higher than that in the initial treatment group and the recurrence group.2.The levels of TCHO,HDL-C and LDL-C in the newly diagnosed group were lower than those in the control group(P <0.05).The levels of TCHO,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C and VLDL-C in the relapse group were lower than those in the control group(P <0.05).The levels of TCHO,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C and VLDL-C in the initial treatment group were all lower than those in the remission group(P <0.05).The levels of TCHO,HDL-C and LDL-C in the relapse group were lower than those in the remission group(P <0.05).3.There was no significant difference in serum lipid level between ISS I patients and control group.TCHO and HDL-C levels in ISS II patients were lower than those in the control group. The levels of TCHO,HDL-C and LDL-C in ISSIII patients were lower than those in the control group. There was no significant difference in serum lipid level between DS I stage and DS II stage patients and the control group. The levels of TCHO,HDL-C and LDL-C in D SIII patients were lower than those in the control group.4.Serum TCHO,HDL-C and LDL-C levels of IgA type MM patients were lower than that of normal people. The serum HDL-C level and serum TG and VLDL-C levels of light chain MM patients were lower than that of normal people.TG and vldl-c were lower in IgA type and IgG type MM patients than in light chain type MM patients.5.Serum TCHO,HDL-C,and LDL-C were negatively correlated with 2-microglobulin in patients with multiple myeloma. Conclusions:The serum lipid levels, especially serum total cholesterol and lipoprotein cholesterol might be considered a useful biochemical and prognostic index in experimental diagnosis and estimating the clinical effect for patients with MM.Levels of serum total and lipoprotein cholesterol provide valuable informations in assessment of the disease activity.
