The Left-behind children refers the children whose one or both of the parents go out to work,cannot live with their parents,out of parental supervision,and are left behind in the country of household register.Left-behind children are usually taken care of by one of parents or other people,some Left-behind children even live alone for more than six months.Left-behind children is a unique phenomenon in the development of our social economy,how to help children receive a better education was the focus of attention.In recent years,exam-oriented education,high intensity schoolwork burden and the examination pressure make students' learning anxiety problems more and more prominent.Anxiety is amain factor in influencing the psychological health of students and reflects more obvious in English courses.In addition,the level of self-concept is also one of the main factors which affecting English learning.Numerous studies have shown that it is imperative to concern the anxiety issues and self-concept in left-behind children's English learning.In this study,we use the Left-behind children from Grade Nine of Cheng Magang Middle School in Macheng City who live with one of their parents,the Left-behind children who live with none of their parents and Non-left-behind children who live with all their parents for research object,total 120.This study comparison left-behind children and non-left-behind children both the similarities and differences in self-concept in English learning through questionnaire and interview,and analysis the reasons that lead to the differences.The researcher hopes that this study can provide guidance for teaching English and studying English.This study reached the main conclusions as following:1.The self-concept in English learning of Left-behind children and non-left-behind children are at the lower middle level.And the anxiety in English learning of Left-behind children and non-left-behind children are at the higher middle level.So the overall condition of self-concept in English learning and the anxiety in English learning are not good.2.The Left-behind children and non-left-behind children have an significant differences in self-concept and anxiety in English learning,the higher level of Left-behind children make the lower self-concept and higher anxiety.3.The reason that Left-behind children and non-left-behind children has an significant differences in self-concept and anxiety in English learning is their parents are not around.The results of this research can propose the effective measures to improve the left-behind children's English learning.
