This report is based on the translation of the excerpts of a Canadian bestseller,Living the Good Life by David Patchell-Evans,who is the founder and CEO of Canada's largest and the world's top four fitness chain clubs—GoodLife Fitness. The book introduces the general knowledge about fitness and explains the importance of keeping a balance among body, mind and spirit.Practical tips on physical exercises, diet and fitness habits are offered as well.Along with China's reform and opening up,China's economy has increased significantly;Chinese people begin to pay more attention to their health and fitness than ever before. The translation of Living the Good Life is to meet the demands of modern Chinese people for expertise about physical and psychological fitness. The report selects the first three chapters as source text;it is a combination of expressive, informative and vocative text. The text is characterized by its simple, accessible and colloquial language. Before translation, the text was read intensively and extensively for better comprehension.During translation, difficulties in words and sentences are encountered. The difficulties at word level firstly stem from limited knowledge about proper nouns and vocabularies on fitness, secondly from the uncertainty about the meanings of general vocabulary in specific contexts. At sentence level, sentence conversion and sentence restructuring posed difficulties. The text is translated under the principles of accuracy and fluency.Specifically, dictionaries, internet resources and context information are fully used to achieve accurate comprehension, translation strategies, including amplification, abridgment, negations are applied to contribute to fluency. After translation, the Chinese version is revised and proofread by cross check and revision so as to ensure the quality.
