Based on his theory, the author puts forward three translation principles pertaining to translation of this type of literature, which in abroad sense falls into the category of EST translation. And the principles put forward in this paper can be summarized as accuracy, professionalism, simplicity and smoothness. This paper further analyzes stylistic features of English operation manuals of mechanical equipment from the perspectives lexicon, syntax and discourse features. In order to realize these strategy and principles, three transition methods are discusses. Numerous cases chosen from the original text and the way they are rendered into Chinese are illustrated to demonstrate how the Communicative and Semantic Translation Theory can be applied in EST translation. The paper draws the conclusion that that translation strategy, principles and methods form theoretical basis for translation of the type of documents under discussion and are conducive to adequate translation.
