The translation project chooses the news report Fire on the ountain as the source text and adopts Eugene Nida's theory of functional equivalence as the translation theory.Journalistic English has three features:accuracy, objectivity and vividness.Nida holds that the aim of translation is to produce equivalence at semantic, syntactic and style level. The translation report provides corresponding strategies for translation difficulties.Firstly, strategies for terms are converting between units of measurement and adding explanatory notes.Secondly, strategies for long sentences are splitting and recombination.Thirdly, strategies for negation are converting between affirmative and negative sentences.Fourthly, strategies for rhetoric are using Chinese four-character patterns and parallel structures. The translation report consists of four chapters.Chapter One gives an introduction to the background and significance of the translation project.Chapter Two introduces the translation process, including preparation stage, translation stage and polishing stage.Chapter Three analyzes translation difficulties and puts forward corresponding strategies.Chapter Four summarizes findings, analyzes limitations, and provides suggestions for further study.
