Lai Man-wai,a trailblazer of Chinese film,is the founder of the Chinese documentary,had made 45 documentaries in his 30-year career.He was a director,line producer and cinemaphotographer of these documentary films.His film themes varies,from earlier revolution,war,to opera,landscape as well as social events.These documentary films do contain documentary and aesthetic value.His craft of filmmaking had been improved in his 30-year career,which reflects the developments of earlier Chinese documentaries.2004,Luo Ka published "Lai Man-wai Films' Business List"(hereinafter referred to as "The List")in "CONTEMPORARY CINEMA" is the most authoritative academic information about Lai Man-wai movies orders.It recorded that Lai Man-wai mad 39 documentaries.2005,"The List" was recorded in "Lai Man-wai A Trailblazer Of Chinese Film",which was edited by Lai Xi,the son of Lai Man-wai.This thesis through to Lai man-wai documentary related historical materials for research,find out 6 documentaries not recorded in "The List",respectively"Memorial Lenin Assembly" "Sun Yat-sen Chiang kai-shek" "Hu Hanmin Encoffning Ceremony" "He Fengsheng Hold A Funeral Procession”"The Drought In Sichuan Province Of 1937" "Guangzhou province Sports Meeting"The 6 documentaries,except "Sun Yat-sen Chiang kai-shek" "Guangzhou province Sports Meeting",the remaining four documentaries' titles by myself.The extant collection of Lai's work only contains 3 integrated films and 1 mutilated film,which makes the research on his work difficult and rare,remaining many disputes and gaps.This thesis applies a method of"a mutual interpretation",which draws on Chinese historian Chen Yinke's "a mutual interpretation between poetry and history".Presenting"a mutual interpretation between film and history",this thesis is based on the personality of the filmmaker,then seek for the mutual interpretation between film and history.Firstly,with Lai's identity of "revolutionary filmmaker"and view of "film as patriotism,filmmaking as patriotic practice",the thesis researches and analyses his documentary works.Through dividing Lai Man-wai'30-year career by location,the thesis named his 4 period:Hong Kong period,Shanghai period,diaspora period,as well as hometown period.The Shanghai period contains 3 stages:Minxin(China Sun)Production Company Shanghai,Lianhua Pictures,and new Minxin(China Sun)Production Company Shanghai.With Lai's work in above 4 periods,the thesis corrects some errors in current film history studies,researches the content of Lei's extant works,and analysis his craft of filmmaking.The whole thesis represents the develoments of Lai Man-wai's ideas and conceptions in his 30-year career.This thesis,by analyzing the film copy and textual research of historical materials,the China film archive collection film "the symbol of Huang Huagang"is actually a "recall Lenin conference"."The National Revolutionary Army,Land,Sea and Air War" produced in 1928 is the origin of Chinese documentary film.This thesis by textual research of historical materials,find out "sun yat-sen Chiang kai-she" was earlier than "The National Revolutionary Army,Land,Sea and Air War".2011,the China film archive "China early documentary and the national revolution,image file view seminar",attending experts said that "the 19th route army in the Anti-Japanese War history" had many plots by being played,but did not have evidence.This thesis through the film analysis research,found that in the film "the 19th route army Nanxiang headquarters meeting before the war","the glorious sacrifice commander Chen" conclusive proof of two places to play.In this paper,by analyzing the historical data,found that lai man-wai and Ming-yau lo recover before Minxin in 1937,has been formed Dahua company.In this thsis,by comparing "19th route army in the Anti-Japanese War history" and "The Battle Of Shanghai",found "The Battle Of Shanghai" borrowed "the 19th route army in the Anti-Japanese War history" six place image,reflected his a consistent view of movie about films save the nation.
