A Study On Turpan's Women's Costumes And Cosmetic Adornments In Jin-Tang Dynasty

A large number of women decoration and ornaments of Turpan archaeological findings,are important materials to study the ancient social life of women.Those woman's ornaments,cultural artifacts and mural materials in the tombs of Sui and Tang Dynasty preserved in the city of Chang'an and its surrounding areas,are all aristocratic luxury items.While,in the Turpan basin,due to natural conditions,those large number of unconscious survived materials are the reflection of civilian life at different social status.In the Jin-Tang Dynasty Turpan society,women used braid,wig and chignons very early.The unearthed mummies,funerary figurines,cave paintings remain a lot of female hairstyle.Especially,those images of various topknot styles provide rich materials for the study of exchange between the central and western regions and its influence in the various aspects,since the reunification which Tang Dynasty replaced Gaochang period.A great diversity of the woman's hairstyle existed because of the pursuit of interesting and novel fashion.The decoration of hair ornaments has strong practicality and beautiful shape.There unearthed a variety of materials have been used in different items.Some of it applicable to the nobility's hair,some for ordinary people's hair.So far,in Turpan,ridge of comb has not yet appeared in the tombs of Jin and Tang;by contrast,the comb and the dandruff comb in Jin Tang Dynasty was used in only one function,but after the Uighur Gaochang period,the combination of the comb and the dandruff comb existed with two functions.From the content of woman's face ornaments,things can be divided into powder,rouge,yellow,floral,amount of makeup,thrush,lip dimple and so on.Oxidized powder rouge,gofun and the raw materials and tools of penciling one's eyebrows unearthed in Turpan's Jin and Tang Dynasties tombs.In the mural painting,sum Huang and hua diàn have been seen in woman's compexion.("sum Huang",the decorations is from the toilet powder,thrush,order lips three aspect development varieties,was beginning popular in Wei and Jin Dynasty)and(hua diàn is a flower decoration in ancient woman's face).In the meanwhile,lip makeup materials and tools has been unearthed.The unearthed documents recorded the trade of spices in East-West trade which passed through the Turpan area.These makeup of women face shows somedistinctive characters,namely,colorful and bright in colour,bold,diverse etc.There are several types of earrings in Turpan Grottoes,also existed in Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes,while the existing time are later than Mogao Grottoes period.There are various forms of earrings.Earrings wore by the Queen of Uighur Gaochang or noble women have distinctive characteristic,reflecting the differences in the level of social status.the religious provider of the Mongolian women has absorbed the way of wearing earrings.The things similar to hairpin has been unearthed in Turpan grottoes,while the existing time are later than in Mogao Grottoes.Kizil Grottoes has never seen such things.The Tang Dynasty is a large unification country,opening to the outside world,and enjoying the unprecedented prosperity,with the integration of eastern and Western cultural exchanges.Its superiority performances in all areas of social life,including woman's makeup jewelry.In addition,from the perspective of cultural relics protection and repair technology,researching on woman's cosmetics,especially the head decoration,which contributes to the restoration of cultural relics in the repair of damaged clay figurines,and pottery figurines.Repair technician figurines can grasp the facial pigment and color layout more accurately.
