As the successor of Genghis Khan,?gedei Khan showed his wisdom in social sk ills and cunning political maneuver by defeating his brilliant younger brother Tolui.In the thirteen years of ?gedei Khan's rein,Mongolian Empire destroyed Jin,invaded S ong and conducted the conquest of Russia,Poland and Hungary.Although constant warfare causes heavy casualties on both sides,it satisfies the empire's demand of expa nding territory.As for administrative affairs and policy making,the Khan stick with st ructures such as: Jaruqui,Daruqai and Tammaqij in order to establish laws and crown authority.Such systems were used to govern Northern China and Central Asia;chan ges were only made when it comes to cultural or financial practice.Such changes were made as: farmer taxation,ten routes state affairs,local autonomy of kings under empi re,Chinese way of the imperial examination and the establishment of The Imperial Ac ademy.In ?gedei Khan's period,Muslim merchants were booming because their trad ition of finance management and beneficial policy from the Khan for Muslims,speedi ng up the process of cultural communication with in the empire.In summary,?gedei Khan inherited the basic political structure and administrative system from the traditi on of Genghis Khan.The changes in business and culture sectors demonstrated that M ongolian royalties held an open attitude toward local culture.During his time,?gedei Khan achieved his goals of stabilizing social and politic al conditions of the empire,reinforcing the rein over conquered areas,and strengtheni ng the crown authority.Except for the political crisis occurred in the later stage of his administration,he is yet to believe,a great Mongolian Khan.
