In this paper,605 national and provincial traditional villages in Henan Provin ce are selected as the research object.Spatial distribution characteristics were anal yzed by means of ArcGIS spatial mapping,SPASS statistical software to study th e correlation between the distribution of traditional villages and geographical facto rs.The main conclusions are as follows:Traditional villages in Henan province have a wide range of dispersion, yet i n some areas the density is significantly higher. Those areas area mainly in 1.the west of Anyang 2.Zhengzhou,Ping Ding Shan,Xu Chang 3 Xin Yang in the sout h of Henan Province;Overall,At the boundary of the city, more traditional villa ges are preserved. From the regional distribution, there are largest number of tradi tional villages in western Henan Province, and regional density there is also the h ighest. There are relatively smallest numbers of traditional villages in Eastern Hen an,as the regional density is also ranked in the bottom.City analysis shows that the largest number of traditional villages owning city is Ping Ding Shan, accounti ng for 21.01%of the province's total. The numbers are highest in Xinyang City,Nan Yang City,Pingdingshan city and Luoyang City, and those five city account for more than half of the province's traditional villages.County analysis shows,Ji aXian's traditional villages are nonparallel in numbers ranking among the counties. However, for 46.83%of the counties in Henan Province, they simply do not hav e any villages qualifying as traditional villages.(2)?The higher the altitude, the more the number of traditional villages.T here are more traditional villages in Taihang Mountain Wangwu Mountain,Qinling Mountains,Funiu Mountain at the foot of the Dabie Mountains, compared to oth er low altitude areas.?Even though population is the main component of traditio nal villages, the protection and development of traditional villages are not necessa rily restricted by population??Theoretically,The level of per capita GDP should not be an obstacle to the preservation of traditional villages. In areas with low pe r capita GDP,due to the production mode, traditional villages will not change to o much,So there will be more traditional villages retained. In the relatively devel oped level regions, there can still be more traditional villages to survive and gro w,such as Zhengzhou,Luoyang.?In terms of transportation, the more convenie nt the transportation is,the stronger interaction there is between the village and t he outside world, then the smaller possibility of traditional villages might remain. The closer to the traffic line, the number of traditional villages that can be search ed is less??Urbanization is still the biggest threat to the protection of traditional villages, most of the traditional villages in Henan are located on the edge of the city or far from the center of the city, thus less affected by Urbanization. To a c ertain extent these villages avoid assimilation and disappear by the city in the pro cess of development?(3)In summary, there are three different suggestions on the protection of t raditional villages:for mountainous areas, for preventing hollowing out traditional village, for protection of traditional villages in urbanization.?In mountain area,p ay attention to the coordination of environmental protection, protect ecological inte gration.?To attract villagers back to the village employment, improve the incom e of villagers.?For three different kinds:city, suburb, countryside urbanization ar ea,take different protection means.
