Phonetic Study Of Juye Dialect Island And Shangshui Dialect-A Case Study Of Speakers In Luochi Village,Shanxi Provnce

Luochi,a village of Guanghua Township,is a typical immigration area in southern Shanxi,with immigrants respectively from Henan,Shandong,Shaanxin,and Anhui provinces.With their settlement,these immigrants have brought their source dialects into this place.Later in the process of contact with local people and immigrants from other areas,two dialect islands gradually formed.One of it is the Luochi Juye dialect Island,the other,Luochi Shangshui Dialect Island,both influenced by other dialects while remaining the main features of the source dialects.The complexity of the language situation in Luochi Village owes much to the immigration,till now no deep study has ever been tackled.This paper firstly keeps a record of the phonetic system of Luochi Juye dialect island and Luochi Shangshui dialect island.Then it makes comparisons respectively between the source dialects,the local dialect,and Mandarin Chinese.The language changes under lingua contact are discussed in the final part.The whole study is reported in seven chapters as following.Chapter 1 focuses on five topics:(1)a general introduction of the history,geography,and humanities of the village Luochi,and why this place attracted immigrants from different places in history;(2)the geographical distribution,the basic composition and the defining issues related to Juye dialect island,and Shangshui Dialect Island in Luochi Village.(3)achievements made in dialect island studies abroad.(4)the purpose,the significance and the methodology of the research.Chapter 2-4 are the description of the phonology of the dialect of Luochi,and Juye dialect and Shangshui dialect in Luochi.Chapter 5 is the description of the phonology of Juye dialect in Shandong Province and Shangshui dialect in Henan province.The former part of Chapter 6 is the comparison made firstly between the immigrants dialect island with its source island and with the local dialect,and then comparison between the immigrants and the language of the immigrants.The latter part makes study of the phonetic change of the Juye dialect island and Shangshui dialect island in Luochi Village.Chapter 7 places focus on the current situation of language application of the immigrant island and sociolinguistic study of the causes of the language use change.
