On Schopenhauer's Theory Of Tragedy

Tragedy,which shows beauty in a destructive way,is the topic of discussion of aestheticians.The meaning and value of tragedy is also the eternal object of study of philosophers.Based on the will ontology,Schopenhauer turned his philosophy research into living and life,and he firmly believed that life is destined to be full of pain and boredom tragedy.Schopenhauer reflected life by using an aesthetic way,made tragedy as an important means of metaphysics,and gave tragedy an ontological meaning.In general,the study of tragedy is the study of human beings at the deepest level.By studying tragedy,we can deepen the understanding of the world and can avoid to be fell into a terrible tragic situation.On the basis of the thoughts of predecessors' tragedy theory,Schopenhauer summed up his unique theory.Schopenhauer 's tragedy theory is a typical example of his philosophy of will.We should start from Schopenhauer 's philosophical foundation to explore his tragedy theory.Will is a creative force of origin and a blind unconscious impulse.It always continues to produce new demands,and never achieves the final satisfaction,thus the creation would never get the final result.This is also destined that the will is a tragedy.By the domination of blind unconsciousness,people would fall into the vicious cycle of the endless desire.Then,life might become a unavoidable tragedy.The art of tragedy is the elegy of life will and the epitome of life tragedy.Tragedy shows the terrible aspect of life,and put the villainous nature of human beings in front of people.In his theory,Schopenhauer reveals the nature of life and existence,shows the struggle of will itself,and then indicates the tragic quality of will.With the premise of tragedy of life,Schopenhauer found an aesthetic experience which surpassed the pain,and gave two paths to relief:art and ascesis.In this way,art is no longer a simple leisure activity but a method of extrication.Art might rescue human beings from the bondage of the will.In Schopenhauer's view,human beings would associate with themselves in aesthetic experience,then they might think the nature of human life.Therefore,they might realize the tragic nature of will.In short,art is a temporary shelter,ascesis is an absolute negation of will.Overall,Schopenhauer turns the traditional value to modern,and his irrationalism provides an opportunity for Chinese philosophy to absorb the Western modern philosophy.The promotion of Chinese modern tragedy theory is inseparable from the contribution of scholars like Wang Guowei,Zhu Guangqian's critique of Schopenhauer 's tragedy theory.Unfortunately,because of the limitation of his philosophy foundation,Schopenhauer's tragedy theory did not figure out the root of life tragedy.However,he respected to a life of atonement to treat life,which might weaken people's morale and pursuit.Nevertheless,Schopenhauer's tragedy theory still plays an important role in nowadays by reflecting the value of life,pursuing the meaning of existence,exploring the unknown life and so on.
