This thesis takes Daniel Gile's Effort Model and Primary and Secondary Information Theory as its theoretical framework. With the help of his theories and former researchers' works, this thesis further discusses the feasibility and necessity of concision strategy application in impromptu speeches. It puts forward three specific concision strategies, namely, generalization, simplification and omission, the usages of which are demonstrated with examples in order to shed light on student's practice and the teaching of C-E simultaneous interpretation(SI).The theoretical study is followed by empirical studies on the SI performance of six students from a translation and interpretation school. They received one-year consecutive interpreting and four months of SI trainings.Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, this thesis finds that 1)student interpreters voluntarily apply concision strategies;2)their awareness of applying these strategies is yet to be improved;3)their abilities in different concision strategies vary;4)the correct application of concision strategies improves the quality of the target language. So in student interpreters' daily practices, they may pay close attention to concision strategies, especially those that they are not familiar with. And SI teachers could also reinforce this notion in class and organize targeted practices for student interpreters.
