The overseas dissemination of“The True Story of Ah Q" has a history of nearly 100 years.It is a success in the history of Chinese literature' s overseas dissemination.Studying its overseas dissemination and acceptance not only has academic value,but also can provide some inspiration for the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature.Unfortunately,there have not been sufficient researches on its overseas dissemination and acceptance in twenty-first century.Moreover,scholars pay little attention to overseas common readers' comments and acceptance.Quantitative analysis and literature and material analysis are combined in this thesis.The author collects data of publication and translation situation The True Story of Ah Q from OCLC Worldcat,papers and reviews about The True Story of Ah Q from Jstor,and overseas common readers' comments on The True Story of Ah Q from Goodreads books.This thesis has three researching perspectives:the translation of The True Story of Ah Q,the evaluation and research of overseas writers and scholars,and the evaluation and acceptance of contemporary overseas common readers.The introductory part introduces the reason of research,the present researches,research methods.The main parts of this thesis are as follows.The first chapter introduces the early translation of The True Story of Ah Q,the number of translations in libraries around the world,and its English translations.The early English translation of The True Story of Ah Q has a high level of translation and has successfully opened the process of its overseas dissemination.Since the 1920s,The True Story of Ah Q has been translated into more than fifty languages.The English versions of this novel have been published for many times and have great influences in the world.In the second chapter,the author analyzes the comments of overseas writers on The True Story of Ah Q and the academic researches and reviews published by six major English journals.The writers from developed countries are more inclined to evaluate it from the aesthetic perspectives,while writers from developing countries are more concerned with the social problems described by this story.From 1950s to the twenty-first century,scholars' research perspectives of English-speaking countries have changed from focusing on its political ideology to diversified literary aesthetics.In the third chapter,the author collects and analyzes the background of overseas common readers of The True Story of Ah Q,the degree of their reading participation and their comments.The True Story of Ah Q attracts readers from all over the world,but its scope of dissemination among overseas readers is far less than that of European and American local works and contemporary bestsellers.However,this novel has attracted a group of readers who are interested in China,and many of them love Lu Xun's works.These readers have high appraisal and acceptance of The True Story of Ah Q and pay more attention on Ah Q' s image.
