A Report On The Translation Of Africa Renewal

Since December 2016,the author has joined the Volunteers Translation Team for the UN Information Department and participated in the translation project for Africa Renewal.The author has been involved in three issues so far.Based on the translation practice,this report will elaborate on the translation problems,analyze the causes and put forward solutions.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the project's background and tasks.The second chapter describes the process of the project,including registration for service,preparation,the translation and review.The third chapter introduces the analytical framework of "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" and relevant theories,emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and investigation capabilities.The fourth chapter is the case study.It analyses the problems in translation from three dimensions:comprehension,expression and adaptation.This part also provides the corresponding solutions.The fifth chapter concludes and discusses the competences that make a good translator.The report finds that the author misunderstands the source text because she lacks domain knowledge and global thinking and misinterprets the words.The author makes mistakes in expression due to improper translation of terminology and proper nouns,Westernised Chinese and incoherent sentences.The author attempts to use adaptation but has overdone it.The author recognizes the above problems and provides revision.
