A Practice Report On Letters Translation For Engineering Construction In Zambia

Since 17~thh September,2018 up to now,I have been working in the branch company of Guizhou Transportation Planning Survey&Design Academe Co.LTD as a professional translator.My job is translating letters contacting foreign parties and our company.In this report,I elaborate the translation experience in detail,sum up various problems encountered in translation process,seek the reasons why those problems were caused and display solutions adopted in my translation process.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is description of the translation practice,which briefly introduces the task source,requirements of the clients and essence of the translation practice such as its characteristics.The second chapter specifically describes the translation process which can be divided into three parts as preparations before translating,translating process and summarizing after translation.The third chapter introduces the analytical framework of“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”to analyse my translation practices systematically.The fourth chapter is case analysis,which analyses the problems in accordance with the three aspects as comprehension,expression and adaptation through the comparison between the original translation version and the revised translation version,in this chapter,solutions to the translation challenges I have encountered in my translation process are also proposed.Through the incessant accumulation of experience,I have got some knowledge and kept applying them in my consequent translation tasks.The fifth chapter concludes the qualities that a good translator should possess,and also presents some other suggestions as for this type of translation.Through analysis of cases in this report,I find causes why there are misunderstanding in the translation process,which are lack of professional knowledge,lack of precise understanding for original text and lack of global thinking for a discourse.Meanwhile,there are some problems in the my translating process,for instance,mistranslating for the terminologies,westernization of sentences in the translation from English to Chinese,lack of reasonable analysis for sentence patterns in the translation process from Chinese to English.And there are also incoherence and inconsistency and lack of flexibility in my translation.Based on the analyses,improved translation versions are provided.
