The author was a translation intern at a multinational consultancy from August to November 2021,when she translated risk consulting reports and reviewed translations frompeers.Due to time limits and heavy workloads, mistakes were unavoidable. Now the author takes a review of her work after two years of in-class training,to identify major types of mistakes, analyze the reasons behind and figure out solutions. The consulting reports are informative texts and prioritize effective communication. The translation needs to be concise, accurate and faithful.Additionally, the translation of report headlines particularly accommodates readership and clients’ requirements for clarity and elegance. This report adopts the"Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" framework proposed by Li Changshuan, and analyzes translation problems including miscomprehension,Europeanized Chinese, incoherence, ambiguous expression, incomplete transmission and headline translation. The corresponding solutions are as follows.First, background information, linguistic context and logical thinking are indispensable for precise comprehension.Second,an adequate grasp of linguistic differences help s to avoid Europeanized Chinese and incoherence, and target language proficiency reduces within-language semantic ambiguity.Besides, emphasis on information completeness compels translators to adopt active thinking and thoroughly understand the original text.Third, amplification and modification adapt headlines for clarity and readability, with such methods as localization and four-character structures. Moreover, timely communication with teammates and clients is crucial to the efficiency and customer satisfaction. This report expects to provide some insights for in-house interpreters at multinational consultancies, especially risk consultancies.
