Under the background of increasingly frequent international cross-cultural exchanges,the shaping of national image is paid more and more attention by all countries.it reflects the style of a country and represents the international status and influence of the country.Nowadays,the new media has been deeply rooted in the human society,which affects people's lives all the time.among them,documentary film bears an important mission in shaping the national image with its unique authenticity and richness.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the framework and content of foreign documentaries concerning China,and to find out the methods of shaping Chinese image by foreign documentaries,to further explore the factors affecting the image of " other plastic",and finally to return to explore how to better " self-molding" national image.The thesis consists of five parts: introduction mainly introduces the significance of the topic,literature review,research basis,etc.,in order to clarify the whole research ideas of the thesis.The first chapter gives an overview of documentary,including the dual attributes of documentary,the significance of documentary for the shaping of national image,the evolution of Chinese image in foreign Chinese-related documentaries,and the reasons for the " hot" of Chinese image documentaries.The second chapter is the main part of the paper,respectively from the frame of high,medium and low three levels,the main theme of the documentary case show,narrative methods,discourse analysis of three aspects,fully shows how a foreign Chinese-related documentary from the macro and micro perspective toconstruct the image of China.The third chapter analyzes the influence factors of foreign documentaries on Chinese image-building,and points out that the " barriers" and ideological factors existing in the " market" of international information dissemination and exchange are usually the reasons for the deviation of the " other-molding" image.The fourth chapter briefly points out how we should look at the " Chinese image" and " foreign supervision" from the perspective of media communication,and provides some thinking for the " self-molding" of China's national image.Through research and analysis,the author draws the following conclusions: the image of China presented by foreign Chinese-related documentaries is divided: the economic image of prosperity and bubble;Political image of rise and hegemony;Brilliant and expanding cultural image;Harmonious and turbulent social image.The binary opposition of China in the image reflects the complex international mood and attitude towards China.In the future,we should treat the Chinese image of "other-molding" with a scientific attitude and build a more positive and perfect image of China with a positive attitude.
