Cultural identity theory is a hot topic in the field of cultural studies since the 1990s.At that time, the immigrant groups and the ethnic diaspora felt a sense of"identity" crisis and a awareness "identity" panic in the context of globalization. They were eager to find out some reasonable answers of how to understand their cultural identity in the "other" culture and how to avoid being assimilate by other cultures. Thus, the cultural research community has focused on the issue of cultural identity. There are many scholars have handed in the answers, including Stuart Hall who is the master of cultural studies. In Hall's view, the cultural identity points to the invisible part of human thought, consciousness, etc. It will be shown through the details of real life and embody a sense of belonging and alliance,it is the reason of a person becoming a social person;and cultural identity is not born, but formed and changed under the influence of culture. The innovative thinking and theoretical openness of Hall' cultural identity theory make it establishes an advantages in many cultural theories; Moreover, the theory's strong practical significance widely affects the awareness of cultural identity in immigrant groups and ethnic diaspora groups. This article aims to study Hall's cultural identity theory. It makes an overall exposition of its theoretical context, basic content and ideological origin, meanwhile,it summarizes the characteristics and practical significance of Hall's cultural identity theory. The article consists of four chapters:In the chapters 1,it explains the related concepts of "identity" and "cultural identity".It also states that the historical context of globalization and Hall's "dual" identity are the important reasons for Hall's study turning to cultural identity; In chapter 2,Caribbean Cultural Identity Study,it shows Hall's cultural identity opinion by interpreting the Caribbean cultural identity that Hall understands.Hall believes that the identity and difference of history contribute to the creation of cultural identity, and he uses the three "presences" formed by Caribbean identity to specifically analyze how the factors work together to form the cultural identity. In chapter 3,Cultural representation and signifying Practices of identity,it interprets the contents, the theoretical sources and the practical analysis of Hall's cultural representation. The theory holds that the representation produces meaning through language, the formation of meaning, identity, and culture cannot be separated from the interference of rights. The cultural representation theory is the theoretical extension of Hall's cultural identity opinion, and it is also a sign of the maturity of Hall's cultural identity theory; The chapter 4," Cultural Identity Theory Framework Features and Practice Strategies ",which combs the constructivist creative thinking path of Hall's cultural identity theory, and points out the openness and organic features of Hall's cultural identity theory; At the same time,it explicates Hall's cultural identity practice strategy in the context of globalization and multiculturalism.Hall's cultural identity theory is an academic reflection on cultural identity produced under the influence of globalization context and constructivist thinking. It is not only Hall's academic response to the crisis of cultural identity, but also the result of Hall's resistance to mainstream power. It helps to establish a multi-cultural identity that is equally shared by human beings.
