As time elapses,multimedia has been widely applied by classroom teaching,meanwhile,teaching devices also transformed from projectors to modern tools such as PPT and electronic whiteboard.multimedia approaches make traditional and dull classroom teaching vivid and efficient.In an age most Chinese take English as their first foreign language,multimedia undoubtedly makes great contribution to environment creating and school effectiveness promotion.As more as multimedia is adopted in class,problems like inappropriate or unnecessary application of multimedia,have been exposed in various cases.Therefore,to study and figure out a better way of functioning multimedia,and further explore and release the compelling force of multimedia for English teaching at primary school stage,comprises the main aim of this dissertation.This dissertation takes T Primary School of Shuangliu District of Chengdu as an example,and carries on systematic investigation an analysis on the following issues:(1)the current status of multimedia-based English teaching in primary schools.(2)how multimedia technology can be effectively applied in multimedia-based English teaching(3)Enlightenment for classroom teaching development and reform gained from the above studies.After investigation and statistical analysis,it was found that multimedia teaching methods were often adopted by teachers.Among multimedia teaching methods,teaching CDs,PPTs and point readers are the most popular methods.However,most teachers are faced with the problem of how to effectively use multimedia technologies.The unreasonable arrangement of training,the insignificance of the mechanism of school encouragement and cooperation and the incorrect cognition of multimedia by teachers and academia are the key factors restricting the effective application of multimedia technology in primary English classroom.At the same time,this paper puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions of multimedia application in primary English classroom teaching according to theproblems found.Teachers should follow the principle of science in the use of multimedia,carefully prepare teaching design,be in line with teaching law.Teachers should fully understand the multimedia material selection and production,so as to be handy in the teaching process.Meanwhile teachers should correctly understand the complementary role of multimedia technology,multimedia courseware should be well-designed.Schools should strengthen the training of relevant departments,increase equipment construction,and provide good conditions for teachers' teaching.
