A Benefits Of Sino-Chinese Tone In Differentiation Between The First And The Fouth Tones In Mandarin

The In the national Chinese language,there are four different tonal fluctuations,which is one of the reasons why foreign students find it difficult to learn the language.In the Vietnamese language,there are 6 distinctive tonal fluctuations.There are differences between the Vietnamese and the Chinese tonal fluctuations that might confuse learners and lead to mispronunciation.For the Vietnamese who are learning Chinese as a second language,mispronouncing the first and fourth tone is a typical mistake.The reasons for this mistake are usually due to the differences in high and low tonal pitches,the influences from the mother tongue,and the Chinese-rooted words.In my research I mainly studied the Chinese-Vietnamese tones in order to find an effective and easier way for the Vietnamese to learn Chinese.The ChineseVietnamese tones are the relationship between the two languages.A Chinese word,when used in the Vietnamese language,has a unique pronunciation.From this foundation,we are able to study Chinese literature,translated to Vietnamese,analyze and contrast the words,even to identify the relationship between the first and fourth tonal fluctuation.This dissertation includes four parts: The first part is the Introduction,introducing the reasons why I chose this topic,the purpose and meaning of the research,resources of my research,methods of research and the existing published research.The second part,Chapter One,introduces the basic Chinese-Vietnamese tones in the Vietnamese language,meanwhile distinguishes the Chinese-Vietnamese words and the Chinese words.The third part,Chapter Two,from my understanding of the mother tongue,I analyze the characteristics of the Vietnamese tonal systems.The fourth part,Chapter Three,contrast the tonal fluctuations between the ChineseVietnamese words and the Chinese words,as well as pointing out the common mistakes of mispronouncing the first and fourth tone that the Vietnamese students usually make.The fifth part,Chapter Four,points out the advantages that the Vietnamese have while learning a new tonal language,by looking into the famous Vietnamese epic “Truyen Kieu”,analyzing and proving the existing relationships between the two languages.The sixth part,Chapter Five,identifies the challenges that Vietnamese students often face with when learning Chinese,clarifying the exceptions when it comes to the first and fourth tone.The seventh part,Chapter Seven,provides suggestions in the teaching,lesson planning,and studying methods.The last part is the conclusion of the dissertation.
