With the deepening of economic development and globalization,as a link in cross-cultural communication,translation becomes more and more important.As a kind of realistic literature,historical books occupie a very important position in the field of literature,through the description of economy,politics and culture of a certain period,it enables people to have an in-depth understanding of the society,therefore,the quality of translation of historical books need to be guaranteed.Translator believes that the most important thing to emphasize in the process of translating realistic literature is faithfulness.This report analyzes the application of the principle of faithfulness in the translation of Victorian England.During the reign of Queen Victoria,the British Empire went to the top of the world.All kinds of buildings are springing up,scientific civilization is surging,etiquette is constantly improving and economic and cultural development is at full swing.However,behind the prosperity lies its fate of decline.The author L.C.B.SEAMN,who is good at writing history books,from an objective point of view shows the magnificent picture of the British society in the reign of Queen Victoria.As a historical book,this book is highly realistic.Its' translation should be faithful to the original text to the greatest extent.Translator explores the application of the principle of faithfulness in the translation of historical books and makes related report.The report analyzes from three aspects: translation method,faithfulness of function and faithfulness of style.Translation methods were mainly analyzed from two aspects: literal translation and free translation,explore how to achieve faithfulness of meaning to the best.Due to the limitation of historical books,the faithfulness of function was mainly analyzed from two aspects: expressive function and aesthetic function,the part of aesthetic function selected two poems as examples.The faithfulness of style was analyzed from two aspects: diction and rhetoric which concretely explains the important influence of diction and proper rhetoric on style.
