A Style Study Of The Translated Text From The Perspective Of Feminist Translation Theory

With the development of China's politics,economy and technology,the output of culture becomes one important need.Translation plays an important role in the communication.Translation study has a long history.Style translation has been a focus in literary translation for a long time.It is a significant criteria for appreciating the translation quality that the translated text is similar or equivalent in the style to the source text.Traditional translation theory ignored the influence of the subjectivity of the translator.In last century,a new change in translation field appeared.That's“cultural turn”.With the development of feminism movements,some translation theorists combined the translation theory with the feminism movements together and formed a completely new translation theory.That is feminist translation theory.In this theory,the subjectivity of the translator is put on an important place.In the practice of translation,the translator's subjectivity has an influence on the style of the translated text.The final result is helpful to the forming of the style of the translated text.As one typical literary works of feminism,The Kitchen is chosen as the subject of the study.In the case study,the focus is put on the style of the source text and the alternation of the source text in the translated text.As a typical feminism novel,the source text displays its own style in lexis,syntax and figures of speech.But from the perspective of feminism translation theory,in the course of translation,the subjectivity of the translator is unavoidably shown in the translated text.This can be found in several aspects,such as the choice of text,the language using and so on.The translated text appears the unique style in the choice of words,the sentence patterns and the figure of speech.In the detailed analysis of The Kitchen,the style of the translated text can be shown naturally under the influence of different elements.In this thesis,the objective is to research the influential elements in helping the formation of the translated text and the reproduction of the style of the source text in the translated text from the perspective of feminist translation theory.In the study,a contemporary novel,The Kitchen^[1],is chosen as the subject of the case study.The research firstly analyzes the style of the source text from microcosmic perspective.The style of the source text is mainly displayed in lexis,syntax and figures of speech.In the following analysis,the research tries to analyze the alternation of the style of the source in the translated text.This section is divided into two parts:one is the reasons for the alternation;the other one is the methods for the alternation.After a detailed analysis of the subject,the thesis introduces the key reason for the alternation:the influence of the translator's subjectivity and the methods for the alternation:upgrading and downgrading,transferring and supplementing.This thesis aims at pinpointing the significance of the translator's subjectivity in the framework of feminist translation theory and the limitations of this theory as well.Furthermore,since the theory is new to most Chinese,there are two things which are significant.They are to introduce and explore the theory and spread the theory in China.The biggest hope of this research is to make a small contribution to the study on the style of translated text.
